Goat farming has huge opportunity in rural development as it act as a ready to use economic asset at time of crisis among rural farmers by providing meat, milk, hide, manure and wool. Goat is proposed as Future food animal by the scientists. Goat has potential for export of products, capital storage, house-hold income, employment and nutrition.

The bio-recovery of three different oil-polluted tropical soils – RS (oil-polluted soil sample from River state), LS (soil sample from NNPC depot, Lagos) and POS (oil-polluted soil sample from Oriade L.G.A., Lagos) by manure amendment was studied for eight weeks. The rates of crude oil biodegradation after manure application as quantified by Gas chromatographic analysis of residual total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) showed the same trend of decrease in the total petroleum hydrocarbons in both the LS and RS series.

An experimental was conducted to see the effect of organic manure against Alternaria leaf spot of cabbage in the plot size 2X2 m2 / eight treatment is farm yard manure 5 t/ha spent mushroom compost 500 kg/ha, poultry manure 5 t/ha, vermicompost 10 t/ha, neem cake 500 kg/ha, and leaf mold 3 t/ha, goat manure 10 t/ha, along with the control . Observation each treatment was replicated three times data generally by using RBD design on percentage of disease intensity @ 30,45 and 60 DAT.

Goats are among the main meat producing animals in India. Along with chevon, goats also provide other products like milk, skin, fibre and manure. Increasing demand for chevon and goat milk has attracted majority of the farmers towards goat farming. Multipurpose potential with good economic returns has encouraged the educated youth, ladies, businessmen and progressive farmers to take up the goat enterprise on a commercial scale. Goat farming in India has low productivity which may be attributed to the lack of scientific knowledge.

The domestic goat Capra hircus is one of the oldest domesticated farm animals. It provides multiple products like meat (chevon), milk, skin, fiber and manure. They survive efficiently on available thorny shrubs and trees in adverse harsh environment in low fertile lands where no other crops can be grown. In India, goats are kept as a source of livelihood and additional income as well as insurance against natural or manmade disasters.
