Results of the present investigation demonstrate that: (1) friction modeling at the tool-chip interface has a remarkable influence on the numerical simulations of machining; (2) reliability of the friction parameters is substantially interrelated with the choice and reliability of the constitutive model parameters. As a result of this work, the error of force prediction in meshfree cutting simulations can be significantly reduced by adopting an enhanced friction model.

Long-read sequencing has great promise in enabling portable, rapid molecular-assisted cancer diagnoses. A key challenge in democratizing long-read sequencing technology in the biomedical and clinical community is the lack of graphical bioinformatics software tools which can efficiently process the raw nanopore reads, support graphical output and interactive visualizations for interpretations of results.

The maximal sensitivity for local alignments makes the Smith-Waterman algorithm a popular choice for protein sequence database search based on pairwise alignment. However, the algorithm is compute-intensive due to a quadratic time complexity. Corresponding runtimes are further compounded by the rapid growth of sequence databases.

Standard cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) involves the acquisition of at least 360 projections rotating through 360 degrees. Nevertheless, there are cases in which only a few projections can be taken in a limited angular span, such as during surgery, where rotation of the source-detector pair is limited to less than 180 degrees.

Multi-gene expression assays are an attractive tool in revealing complex regulatory mechanisms in living organisms. Normalization is an indispensable step of data analysis in all those studies, since it removes unwanted, non-biological variability from data.

In this paper, we estimate the scale of time consumption of such calculation in comparison to that of time-independent calculation, and present our solution to the problem by using parallel computing as implementing both MPI and OpenMP to the calculation. We also discuss the possibility to exploit parallel computing with GPU in the near future, and the preliminary results of time-dependent spectral function.

Finger millet commonly known as Ragi is a rich source of several nutrients. An investigation was undertaken to study the nutritional composition of raw, malted and popped finger millet varieties. Five varieties of finger millet namely GPU 66, GPU 67, GPU 71, MR 6 and PR 202 were investigated for their nutritional contents before and after processing such as malting and popping. The nutrients analysed for raw, malted and popped finger millet varieties were moisture, protein, fat, crude fibre, ash and total dietary fiber. Carbohydrate and energy values were computed.

Today the term big data draws a lot of attention, but behind the hype there's a simple story. For decades, companies have been making business decisions based on transactional data stored in relational databases. Beyond that critical data, however, is a potential treasure trove of non-traditional, less structured data: weblogs, social media, email, sensors, and photographs that can be mined for useful information. Decreases in the cost of both storage and compute power have made it feasible to collect this data - which would have been thrown away only a few years ago.

his book has two main goals: to provide a unifed and structured overview of this growing field, as well as to propose a corresponding software framework, the OpenTL library, developed by the author and his working group at TUM-Informatik. The main objective of this work is to show, how most real-world application scenarios can be naturally cast into a common description vocabulary, and therefore implemented and tested in a fully modular and scalable way, through the defnition of a layered

It seems an obvious question to ask at the beginning of an HLSL and shader book; what exactly is a shader? It’s a small program or algorithm written explicitly to run on a computer Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). It provides a way for developers to extend the rendering capabilities of the GPU. Any program that works closely with graphics will benefit from using shaders. The video game industry spins off custom shaders by the thousands, they are as vital to game projects as business entity classes are to line of business applications.
