A screen house experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2018-19 to find out the effect of different levels of P and Zn on wheat yield, concentration of different nutrients in grain and straw in low and high P status soil. Five levels of P (0, 30, 60, 120 and 180 mg P kg-1 soil) and four levels of Zn (0, 2.5, 5 and 10 mg Zn kg-1 soil) were applied in completely randomized design with three replications.

Fertilizers are one of the costly inputs but continue to exert significant contribution to produce additional food grains. To realize maximum benefits and reduce nutrient losses from fertilizers, they must be applied in the right quantity, source and combination at the right time using the right method.

Potato is one of the most important and widely cultivated rabi crops of India. India ranks third in area and fourth in total potato production of the world. The increase in potato production in India has been very impressive by about 900 % during the last 50 years. Good productivity become under question due to poor moisture conservation and nutrient management practices.

Therefore, nutrient supply in crop system should be economically-viable, environmentfriendly and socially acceptable without affecting the gross plant production. It has been realized that soil fertility can be managed in complete harmony with sustainable agriculture development by careful analysis of current issues of sustainable land productivity (Saleh, 2008; Srinivasarao et al., 2008).

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a perennial shrub and a tuberous root crop well adapted to poor soils and is relatively tolerant to drought, the crop is usually grown under marginal soil and climatic conditions and often with very limited inputs of fertilizers and pesticides. In India, cassava is cultivated in varied agro climatic and pedogenic environments. In Tamil Nadu, it is cultivated mainly for industrial uses, cassava is grown in black soils (Vertisols) and red soils (Alfisols).

A field experiment was conducted to assess the combined effect of bioinoculants on nutrient uptake, forskolin content (diterpene) and tuber yield of Coleus forskohlii (cutivar; K-8). The microbial inoculants such as Azotobacter chroococcum, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Glomus fasciculatum (VAM) were used. Bioagents such as Trichoderma harzianum and Pseudomonas fluorescens were used. Bioinoculants were examined along with graded levels of recommended dose of N and P2O5 with 100% K2O fertilizers. Nutrient uptake showed significant difference among the treatments.

To study the impact of artificial creation of soil fertility gradient strategy on soil fertility, nutrient uptake and green fodder yield of sorghum (var. CO 30) by following inductive methodology (fertility gradient concept), a field experiment was conducted during 2014-15 at farmer’s holding of Coimbatore district. The experimental field was divided into three equal strips and three graded levels of fertiliser N, P2O5 and K2O were applied in the form of urea, single super phosphate and muriate of potash, respectively to strip I (N0P0K0), II (N1P1K1) and III (N2P2K2).
