  • This study was aimed at quantifying yield loss due to high temperature induced damages on head rice recovery in rice. Fifteen rice varieties were evaluated over 3 seasons and their head rice recovery was estimated. Results of this study revealed that day temperature had no influence on the head rice recovery whereas night temperature had negative impact on head rice recovery at p < 0.05.

  • The crop yield should be limited by the available nitrogen within the soil. Yoshida (1972) reported that nitrogen plays an important role in developing yield capacity and maintaining the photosynthetic activity during grain filling stage of the crop. Nitrogen application can improve the root system, so that water and nutrient absorption are facilitated.

  • A field experiment entitled “Effect of soil application of silicon on growth and yield attributes of rice (Oryza sativa L.) was conducted in Kharif season 2017-18. Soil application of silixol granules was given at the time of mid-vegetative, mid-reproductive and mid-ripening stages of rice. The experiment was arranged as randomized block design with four treatments which replicated thrice.

  • Rice is sensitive to high temperature, especially at the reproductive stage, which causes spikelet sterility and yield losses. The increase in both frequency and intensity of high temperature, along with its large variability, is emerging as a potential threat to the sustainability of rice production. The predicted 2–4°C increment in temperature by the end of the 21st Century poses a threat to rice production.

  • A field experiment in rice investigation was conducted during kharif seasons of 2017 and 2018 at college farm, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari to study the effect of variety and zinc application on rice. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with factorial concept and replicated thrice. The experiment consisted of three varieties viz.

  • The estimation of crop yield before harvest helps in different policy making in an order for storage, distribution, marketing, pricing, import-export etc. Crop productions depend on several factors such as weather factors, plant characters and agricultural inputs. The present study was carried out to develop the appropriate statistical model for estimation of rice yield before harvest in the year 2018-19. This research was done on plant biometrical characters along with farmer’s appraisal.

  • The climate determines selection of right crop and its sequence for a particular location, while the prevailing weather conditions dictate the potentiality of that crop and nitrogen use. On an average every 1oC rise in temperature could lead to a 20 per cent reduction in crop yields. Therefore, the two big challenges viz., finite cultivable land and rise in temperature have to be overcome by agricultural sector to sustain crop yields. In this direction, one of the ways is to use weather and climate as non-monetary input in crop production. Among the crops, rice is a weather sensitive crop.
