Ebook "Legumes in the Omic Era" provides a timely review of recent advances in legume genomics research and application. In this post-genomic era enormous amount of biological information is available which could be of huge potential use for crop improvement applications. This aspect of genomics assisted plant breeding is focused throughout the book for all the important grain legume crops. Role of functional genomics and importance of bioinformatics tools in present day genomics and molecular breeding research is also discussed in detail.

The Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros and the green-belly stink bug Dichelops melacanthus are the most important pests today for the succession system of soy-corn in Brazil. Dichelops melacanthus attacks the emerging shoot (epicotyl) of corn plants at the seedling stage of their development, remaining and reproducing on the straw over generations. Euschistus heros, on the other hand, feeds directly on the grains and lodge under fallen leaves after the soybean harvest, due to the absence of another crop host.

Soybean is economically the most important bean in the world, providing vegetable protein for millions of the people and ingredients for hundreds of chemical products. The aim of this study was to identify the superior transgressive segregants and estimate the correlation coefficient between seed yield, and yield components. Six generations of a crosses were evaluated at Botany Section Farm, College of Agriculture, Dhule (Maharashtra) during Kharif, 2019.

The present study was conducted in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra state during 1980-81 to 2011-12. The study found that area under wheat, bajra, gram, redgram had declined and area under rice, Kharif jowar, Rabi jowar, greengram, blackgram, fruits and vegetables, soybean sugarcane and groundnut was increased. Similarly area under total cereal and pulse was also declined.

The present investigation was carried out to study the uptake of micronutrients in soybean growing soils of Dharwad taluk during 2015-16 kharif season. For this purpose 51 representative soybean growing soils of Dharwad taluk were selected. Based on the average grain yields in 51 fields, the entire group was divided into below average and above average yield categories.

The vegetable soybean is characteristically rich in sucrose content besides many food grade characters. These characters are bound to influence insect lifecycle, but there is no systematic study on this part. Keeping all these points in view the present investigation on biology of S. litura on vegetable and grain soybean was undertaken.

The field experiments carried out to study the effect of border crops and insecticides against whitefly transmitted Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) in soybean during kharif 2015-16 and 2016-17. The treatment in combination of maize as border crop, seed treatment with thiamethoxam 30FS@5ml/kg seed, foliar application of imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 500ml/ha at 30-35 DAS and triazophos 40 EC @ 800 ml/ha at 45-50 DAS recorded lowest mean whitefly population (1.02 whiteflies/plant), which resulted in reduced YMV disease incidence (14.63%) and highest grain yield (19.42 q/ha) among treatments in soybean.

The results of this study revealed that the first sowing date of 23rd MW exhibited significantly highest number of pods per plant (40.04), test weigh (19.74) and grain yield of soybean (20.32 q ha-1 ) however, the second sowing date of 25th MW found to be closely and equally suited for kharif sowing of soybean crop. Delayed sowing of soybean revealed decline in yield irrespective of varieties tested.

Under field conditions, Soybean mosaic virus infected plants exhibited the major symptoms viz., mosaic and mottling, crinkling, leaf puckering, dwarfing and younger leaves showed clear mosaic symptoms etc. The SMV Infected plants showed considerable reduction in plant height, pod length, grains per pod and pods per plant that leads to considerable reduction in the economic yield. The SMV was readily sap transmissible to cv. JS-335 when the inoculum was prepared in 0.1 M phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) and produce typical symptoms such as mottling, crinkling of leaves, leaf puckering and dwarfing.

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different levels of nitrogen and sulphur on yield and quality of soybean with four levels of nitrogen (0, 40, 80, 120 kg N ha-1 ) and four levels of sulphur (0, 20, 30 and 40 kg ha-1 ). The highest mean grain yield of 1997 and 1874 kg ha-1 were recorded with the application of 120 kg N and 40 kg S ha-1 , respectively. The oil content and protein content also progressively increased with increasing levels of nitrogen and sulphur. The highest oil and protein content of 18.65 and 40.

Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) is co-product of the ethanol industry produced during dry milling process. Its availability is increasing due to higher demand for ethanol as biofuel. The DDGS is high energy and high protein feed. Distillers dried grain with soluble (DDGS) in poultry diet may be done for economic poultry production replacing costly protein ingredient soybean meal. Level of DDGS in poultry diet depends upon species and age of poultry birds, type of cereal involved in its production, method of drying after fermentation, level of fiber etc.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of integrated application of inorganic fertilizer (NPK) and farmyard manure (FYM) on soybean grain nutrient uptake and yield. We performed field experiments with treatments including 100% NPK, 150% NPK, 100% NPK+FYM and control (without fertilizer), and soil properties and plant parameters assessed. Greater effects on soil electric conductivity (EC), soil organic carbon (SOC), Soil N were recorded with treatments.

The main objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of incorporation of graded levels of RDDGS in the concentrate mixtures on in vitro nutrient digestibility and rumen fermentation pattern using buffalo inoculum. Soybean meal (SBM) based conventional concentrate mixture was prepared and SBM in the concentrate mixture was replaced by RDDG at graded levels of 25, 50, 75 and 100 per cent on N basis. The nutritional worth of various concentrate mixtures was assessed by in vitro gas production technique.
