The main findings of the study were that (i) gas production and methane content of the gas were reduced when ensiled cassava root replaced the dried cassava root as a carbohydrate source, and when cassava leaf meal replaced water spinach meal as a protein source; (ii) Adding brewers’ grains at 5% dry matter (DM) to the diet of ensiled cassava root supplemented with either cassava foliage or water spinach as the main protein source increased DM feed intake...

The main plot treatments comprised three sowings, viz. 22 ºC, 20 ºC and 18 ºC and subplots consisted of eight treatments of bio-regulators, viz. control, water spray, SA @ 100 ppm, SA @ 200 ppm, TSA @ 100 ppm, TSA @ 200 ppm, TGA @ 100 ppm and TGA @ 200 ppm. Crop sown at 20 ºC resulted in significantly highest yield and nutrient content over 22 ºC and 18 ºC. Among bioregulators, an application of salicylic acid @ 200 ppm registered significantly highest yield and nutrient content in grain and straw of wheat, thus, hold a great promise in wheat production under heat stress.

In this study, GGBFS at different cement replacement ratios of 0%, 20%, 40% and 60% by weight were used in finegrained concrete. The ternary binders containing GGBFS and FA at cement replacement ratio of 60% by weight have also evaluated. Flexural and compressive strength test, rapid chloride permeability test and under-water abrasion test were performed. Experimental results show that the increase in concrete strength with GGBFS contents from 20% to 40% but at a higher period of maturity (56 days and more).

A field experiment was conducted in the premises of Pepsico Pvt. Ltd., near Bengaluru during 2012-13 to study the effect of beverage industry effluent on soil properties, growth and yield of barley with ten treatments replicated thrice using RCBD design. The beverage industry effluent was neutral in reaction, medium in electrical conductivity (1.59 dSm-1 ), BOD (42.2 mg L-1 ) and COD (143 mg L-1 ) but low in plant nutrients content.

Green gram (Vigna radiate) grains were procured from local market, cleaned and graded by two screen cleaner-cum-grader. Storage study was conducted by storing large sized green gram grains in 4 types of bags (jute, plastic, polythene, hermetic) without and with treatment (aluminium phosphide tablets) at 3 different initial moisture contents (12.34, 14.07, 16.04 % w.b.). Total 21 such bags having different treatment combinations were kept in laboratory for 33 weeks.

In the present investigation rice genotype HUR-105 was selected to see the effect of seed priming on yield attributes and grain quality of rice. Priming of seeds has been done with distilled water (hydro), Mg(NO3)2 salt (halo) and kinetin (T3), salicylic acid (hormonal) and different parameters, such as grains panicle-1 , test weight, harvest index, panicle number hill-1 , panicle length and amylose content were studied at different study periods with respect to two sowing conditions, representing timely and late sowing of rice crop.

An experiment with a total of 36 rice entries consisted of 28 cross and eight parental lines were evaluated to estimate the variability parameters for 10 yield attributing character, 6 physical quality traits; 8 cooking and chemical quality traits of rice cultures. Analysis of variance revealed the existence of significant differences among cultures for all traits studied. High PCV coupled with GCV was recorded for gel consistency and alkali spreading value revealed wider variability for these traits.

The low grain water content (GWC) at harvest is a prerequisite to mechanical harvesting in maize, or otherwise would cause massive broken kernels and increase drying costs. The GWC at harvest in turn depends on GWC at the physiological maturity (PM) stage and grain dehydration rate (GDR).

ANOVA revealed high significant differences among germplasm accessions for yield, yield component traits and also for drought tolerance traits.Mean squares attributable to ‘Genotypes vs check entries’ were significant for all the traits except seeds per podand relative water content.

Nutrient supply is the most limiting factor next to the water for crop production. Sustaining rice production has become a great challenge, particularly in areas where rice productivity declines in spite of following recommended nutrient management practices.

Responses of 4 cultivars of rice viz. NDR-8002, TCA-48, IR-42 and BPT 5204 to varying levels of moisture deficit stress at flowering stage were assessed in the plastic tubs for their relative tolerance to drought. Moisture deficit adversely affected the apparent translocation rate, relative leaf water content, total chlorophyll content and total soluble carbohydrate content, while proline accumulation enhanced irrespective of varieties. Grain yield decreased conspicuously in all the varieties in response to water stress.

Application of Drying Techniques in Food Processing Drying is one of the oldest preservation processes available to the mankind, on that we can track since prehistoric times. In today food market dried foods play an important role in the food supply chain. As for fruits and vegetables it can be estimated that they constitute about 1% of the total drying in the food industry, by large being the grains the most important. The main feature of this process consists on lowering the water content in order to avoid or slow down food spoilage by microorganism.

In field study, total 36 treatment combinations consisting of three moisture regimes as main plot treatment and 12 combinations of two levels of FYM, three levels of P carriers as sub-plot treatments evaluated in split plot design with three replications using wheat variety GW-451 as test crop. The results revealed that the maintenance of moisture between 100 and 75 % available water content (W1) significantly increased the length of earhead, number of grains/earhead, 1000-grain weight, grain and straw yield as well as gluten content. The treatments W1 and W2 resulted in 22.11 and 18.
