Finger millet is an important millet owing to its excellent storage properties and the nutritive value. So dehulling or pearling of finger millet is necessary to remove its outer layer to improve its flour quality. Pearling of this millet is quite difficult as its seed coat is bound tightly to the endosperm of the grain.

Isolation of high-quality RNA from seeds is very critical for seed specific gene analysis. An investigation and comparison on the use of CTAB, SDS and TRIzol extraction procedures to extract high-quality RNA from grains of medical njavara rice were carried out in the present study. These protocols either failed to yield RNA or resulted in reduced yield with poor quality of RNA from Njavara rice grains.

The experiment consisted of three levels of nitrogen (90,120 and 150 kg ha1 ) with basal application of P2O5 and K2O each at 60 kg ha-1 and zinc at 15kg ha-1 (basal application) or 0.5% ZnSO4 (foliar spray) and inoculated with Azotobacter or Azospirillum. Highest number of cobs plant-1 , plant height, dry weight, grains cob-1 and grain yield was recorded in the plots treated with 150 kg ha-1 N + 15 kg ZnSO4 basal along with seed inoculation with Azospirillum 20 g per kg seeds.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi, 2015-16 and 2016-17 in the farmers field at Gajularega village of Vizianagaram district to know the production potential of finger millet under rice fallow conditions. First year finger millet seed was broadcasted in standing crop of paddy and left the crop without undergoing thinning and gap filling or any intercultural operations.

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) cultivars store non-structural carbohydrates predominantly as either starch in seeds (grain sorghums) or sugars in stems (sweet sorghums). Previous research determined that sucrose accumulation in sweet sorghum stems was not correlated with the activities of enzymes functioning in sucrose metabolism, and that an apoplasmic transport step may be involved in stem sucrose accumulation.

Aerobic rice is a new way of cultivating rice that requires less water than lowland rice. Direct sown aerobic rice suffers more due to weed menace as the weeds and rice compete for growth factors together. Achieving higher rice grain yields under aerobic conditions requires better weed management practices. Hence, the aerobic rice should be focused primarily on efficient weed management to make aerobic rice cultivation more efficient in terms of returns on farmer investments and use of water resources.

Chickpea, a cool season legume crop of the family Leguminosae and of the genus Cicer, is the world’s largest pulse crop. This crop has high productivity and holds prominent position in the international food grain trade. An experiment was conducted to identify the transgressive segregants for yield and yield contributing characters in F2 population of three crosses in chickpea. In most of the tansgressive segregants, in each of the three crosses, better parent yield was transgressed with transgression of one or several other characters.

The present investigation was carried out during the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 at Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Ayodhya with the objective to estimate heterotic responses in yield component traits in 45 hybrid combinations developed by crossing 15 lines (females) with 3 testers (males). An experiment was carried out to know the influence of application of different basal dose (50 and 80 % N) of liquid fertilizer Urea Ammonium Nitrate at different application depth (7 and 9 cm) on wheat growth parameters. The basal dose was provided with UAN and thereafter by foliar spray of UAN. Different crop growth parameters like germination count, plant height, number of tillers per m row length, grain yield and biological yield of wheat crop were studied. Plot with urea application was taken as control plot.

Grain yields were linearly increased at 100% ETo while maximum IWUE was achieved at 80% ETo. Results suggest that the use of either on-farm priming or hydropriming of seeds for 12 h can be helpful in improving grain yields in late-sown wheat under both optimum as well as limited water conditions.

We present here a means of bootstrapping finely-discriminating taxonomies from a variety of different starting points, or seeds, that are acquired from three different sources: WordNet, ConceptNet and the web at large.
