This paper presents an investigation into the flexural behaviour of basalt FRP reinforced concrete beams through experimental and analytical methods. To achieve the research objectives, four concrete beams reinforced with steel and four identical concrete beams reinforced with BFRP bars were tested under four-point bending.

Starch defines a semicrystalline polymer made of two different polysaccharide fractions. The A- and B-type crystalline lattices define the distinct structures reported in cereal and tuber starches, respectively. Amylopectin, the major fraction of starch, is thought to be chiefly responsible for this semicrystalline organization while amylose is generally considered as an amorphous polymer with little or no impact on the overall crystalline organization.

Eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), one of the major components of basic granules of eosinophils, is cytotoxic to tracheal epithelium. However, the extent of this eect on other cell types has not been evaluatedin vitro.Inthis study, we evaluated the eect of ECP on 13 mammalian cell lines. ECP inhibited the growth of several cell lines including those derived from carcinoma and leukemia in a dose-dependent manner.

Cytochromesb561 are a family of transmembrane proteins found in most eukaryotic cells. Three evolutionarily closely related mammalian cyto-chromes b561 (chromaffin granule cytochrome b, duodenal cytochrome b, and lysosomal cytochromeb) were expressed in a Saccharomyces cerevisiae Dfre1Dfre2 mutant, which lacks almost all of its plasma membrane ferrire-ductase activity, to study their ability to reduce ferric iron (Fe 3+ ).

In the absence of serglycin proteoglycans, connective tissue-type mast cells fail to assemble mature metachromatic secretory granules, and this is accompanied by a markedly reduced ability to store neutral proteases. However, the mechanisms behind these phenomena are not known.

The proprotein convertase PC1⁄3 preferentially cleaves its substrates in the dense core secretory granules of endocrine and neuroendocrine cells. Sim-ilar to most proteinases synthesized first as zymogens, PC1⁄3 is synthesized as a larger precursor that undergoes proteolytic processing of its signal peptide and propeptide.

Major yolk protein (MYP), a transferrin superfamily protein that forms yolk granules in sea urchin eggs, is also contained in the coelomic fluid and nutritive phagocytes of the gonad in both sexes. MYP in the coelo-mic fluid (CFMYP; 180 kDa) has a higher molecular mass than MYP in eggs (EGMYP; 170 kDa).

In plants and green algae, several starch synthase isozymes are responsible for the elongation of glucan chains in the biosynthesis of amylose and amy-lopectin. Multiple starch synthase isozymes, which are classified into five major classes (granule-bound starch synthases, SSI, SSII, SSIII, and SSIV) according to their primary sequences, have distinct enzymatic properties.

There are seven members of the proprotein convertase (PC) family of secre-ted serine proteases that cleave their substrates at basic amino acids, thereby activating a variety of hormones, growth factors, and viruses. PC1⁄3, PC2 and PC5⁄6A are the only members of the PC family that are targeted to dense core secretory granules, where they carry out the process-ing of proteins that are secreted from the cell in a regulated manner.

Starch-active enzymes often possess starch-binding domains (SBDs) medi-ating attachment to starch granules and other high molecular weight sub-strates. SBDs are divided into nine carbohydrate-binding module (CBM) families, and CBM20 is the earliest-assigned and best characterized family.

a-defensins are released from granules of leukocytes and are implicated in inflammatory and fibrotic lung diseases. In the present study, the effects of a-defensins on the proliferation and collagen synthesis of lung fibroblasts were examined. We found thata-defensin-1 and a-defensin-2 induced dose-dependent increases in the incorporation of 5-bromo-2¢-deoxy-uridine into newly synthesized DNA in two lines of human lung fibroblasts (HFL-1 and LL-86)

Chymases are chymotrypsin-like serine proteases that are found in large amounts in mast cell granules. So far, the extended cleavage specificities of eight such chymases have been determined, and four of these were shown to have a strong preference for acidic amino acids at position P2¢. These enzymes have basic amino acids in positions 143 and 192 (Arg and Lys, respectively).

Roquin is an E3 ubiquitin ligase with a poorly understood but essential role in preventing T-cell-mediated autoimmune disease and in microRNA-mediated repression of inducible costimulator (Icos) mRNA. Roquin and its mammalian paralogue membrane-associated nucleic acid binding protein (MNAB) define a protein family distinguished by an 200 amino acid domain of unknown function, ROQ, that is highly conserved from mam-mals to invertebrates and is flanked by a RING-1 zinc finger and a CCCH zinc finger....

Gut granules are cell type-specific lysosome-related organelles found within the intestinal cells of Caenorhabditis elegans. To investigate the regulation of lysosome-related organelle size, we screened forC. elegansmutants with substantially enlarged gut granules, identifying alleles of the vacuolar-type H + -ATPase and uridine-5¢-monophosphate synthase (UMPS)-1.

Cathepsin G (CG) (EC 3.4.21.20) and chymase (EC 3.4.21.39) are two clo-sely-related chymotrypsin-like proteases that are released from cytoplasmic granules of activated mast cells and⁄or neutrophils. We investigated the potential for their substrate-binding subsites to discriminate between their substrate specificities, aiming to better understand their respective role dur-ing the progression of inflammatory diseases.
