The study "Characterization of grapevine (V. vinifera L.) varieties grown in Yozgat province (Turkey) by simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers" was conducted to characterise 50 grape varieties grown in Yozgat by molecular methods. Molecular definitions were realized using 9 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers (VVS2, VVMD5, VVMD7, VVMD24, VVMD27, VVMD28, VVMD31, VrZAG62, and VrZAG79), including six microsatellite loci used for grapevine variety collections by the European Union funded project (GENRES 081), accepted as the minimum standard set (core set) by the world.

High temperature during grape berry ripening impairs the quality of fruits and wines. Veraison time, which marks ripening onset, is a key factor for determining climatic conditions during berry ripening. Understanding its genetic control is crucial to successfully breed varieties more adapted to a changing climate.

The wine-making industries produce millions of tons of residues (grape pomace) after fermentation, which represents a waste management issue both ecologically and economically. After juice extraction from grape fruit, grapes pomace collectively includes stems, seeds and skins that is discarded as waste accounted for 55 – 65 per cent of the fruit. The most important variety grown in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu state is Muscat Hamburg (local name is Panner grapes), hence this variety of grapes is used in the study.

The technique of raisin production in India is mostly based on the dipping of the grape bunches in emulsion having 2.5% potassium carbonate and 1.5% ethyl oleate for a duration of 2 to 4 minutes, and subsequent shade drying in open tier system (Adsule et al., 2012). Quality is one of the major concerns in raisin production; hence, extensive research is necessary to find the effect of storage temperature on physico-chemical characteristic of raisins prepared from seedless varieties of grapes.

Viticulture in India is considered to be one of the most remunerative farming enterprises due to high monetary returns. Grape culture is laborious one and sensitive to climate. Pruning is the most important operation in grape and its standardization is of utmost important in determining fruitfulness, yield and quality. Pruning practices adopted in the vineyard is largely dependent on vine growing environment, variety and season. Further, pruning largely not only influences the productivity in terms of fruitfulness of a particular variety but also the quality of grape viz.

Effect of pruning severity and season for yield in grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) variety muscat hamburg
Grape vine originated in Armenia as one of the temperate fruit crop got acclimatized under tropical condition. A field investigation on standardization of pruning severity and season for yield in grape variety Muscat Hamburg was carried out during the period from 2014 to 2015 in the farmer’s field, M.S.S. Farms, Kamayagoundanpatty, Cumbum Valley, Theni district in Tamil Nadu. The field experiment was undertaken by adopting Randomized Block Design with eleven treatments replicated thrice.

Towards a scientific interpretation of the terroir concept: Plasticity of the grape berry metabolome
The definition of the terroir concept is one of the most debated issues in oenology and viticulture. The dynamic interaction among diverse factors including the environment, the grapevine plant and the imposed viticultural techniques means that the wine produced in a given terroir is unique.

Gibberellins (GA3) are the most sprayed growth regulator for table grape production worldwide, increasing berry size of seedless varieties through pericarp cell expansion. However, these treatments also exacerbate berry drop, which has a detrimental effect on the postharvest quality of commercialized clusters.

A study was conducted to know the petiole nutrient content in different grape genotypes belonging to table purpose white and coloured types along with wine grape types. Petiole nutrient contents among three different grapes types varied significantly. Petiole P, K, Mn and Zn contents among the three grape types varied in the order: table white > table coloured > wine grape. Petiole P, Ca, Mn and Cu content of wine and table purpose white type differed significantly, where as other macro and micro nutrients did not differ significantly.

The study was conducted on six red wine varieties (Syrah, Caladoc, Grenache Noir, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc and Nielluccio) at the farm of ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune. Five year old vines of these varieties were selected for the study. The grapes were harvested at about 23°Brix TSS. Anthocyanins, total phenols, tannins, reducing sugar, carbohydrate and protein were quantified in different parts of berries viz.; seed, skin and pulp. Among the different varieties, TSS and acidity showed non-significant effect while highest pH value (3.
