Bisulfate intercalated graphites with different particle sizes were prepared by a chemically oxidative method using natural flaky graphites as raw materials. The morphology and structure of the expandable graphites were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction patterns, and scanning electron microscope.

The effects of initial graphite particle size and shape on oxidation time of graphite prepared by Hummers' method have been investigated. The oxidation was performed on three series of graphite particles, clod powder with two different sizes of 18 and 6 mm, and flake shaped powder with an average particle size of 25 mm.

The thesis is organised as follows: Chapter 1 comprises the literature review of protein structure, amyloid fibrils and of the effect of nanomaterials on protein aggregation. Chapter 2 reviews the computational methods used to perform simulations and analysis. Chapter 3 comprises my published article on benchmarking forcefields and sampling methods for disordered proteins using amylin as a case study. Chapter 4 comprises my published article on the effect of oxidation on the properties of graphene oxide flakes in solution.

In this work, the polyaniline/reduced graphene oxide (PANi/rGO) bilayer was directly electrodeposited on carbon screen-printed electrodes (SPE). Some details in growth of PANi/rGO bilayer were revealed from cyclic voltammograms and X-ray photoelectron spectra. The growth of stacked rGO film at high compactness on the electrode surface is mainly accompanied with reduction of epoxy functional groups at basal planes of graphitic flakes.

Graphene-silver (G-Ag) nanocomposites were prepared using liquid phase exfoliation of graphite flakes followed by a reduction of silver nitrate. The plasmonic characteristics of these nanocomposites are highly sensitive to the Ag concentration in the films.

In this paper, the authors propose a novel method to examine if surfaces possess wear-resisting characteristic at micro-scale by measuring frictional force after a number of sliding cycles.

In the present study, titanium dioxide/graphene nanoplatelets (TiO2/GNPs) composites have been synthesized from precursors of ilmenite and natural graphite flakes with difference in pH of medium. As-prepared composite materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX and BET techniques, UVVIS diffuse reflectance.
