The study results show inter-relationships and transformations of the three indicators in the research context, where urban land temperature and Urban Heat Island (UHI) are raised by built-up areas and in contrast, reduced by vegetated areas. As a result, urban green space would be a driver to mitigate the harmful impact of the "heat island" effect in urban areas. Aim to strengthen concentrated green areas and vegetation in land areas that are less favorable for construction.

This paper relies on remote sensing images, collected from Sentinel-2 satellite, to preliminarily map the green space in Da Nang city. The remote sensing data was collected in November 2022. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is used to recognize the green space pixels. Based on this preliminary study, the area of green space in Da Nang city is approximately 140 km2 , which occupies roughly 56% of the total urban area.

Urban green spaces (UGS) are one of the indispensable elements for design and development of cities. UGS are considered as “lung” of cities as well as one of the elements reflecting the quality of life. Air pollution has been a major concern for people around the world, especially in urban areas of developing countries, such as Hanoi city. Based on the choice experiment approach, this paper presents estimates of residents’ willingness-to-pay (WTP) for improving air quality of Hanoi. Hanoi residents expressed their strong preferences for increase of green spaces and reduction of air pollution-related deaths. The information on residents’ WTP for improving air quality would be useful for policy makers in investing effectively in controlling air pollution given the budget limitation.

The study results show that the greenery area is strongly correlated in the central districts and the average correlation in districts with high urbanization or agricultural areas. The green tree density in Ha Noi city is quite different between the central districts and suburbs. In the suburb such as Long Bien, Ha Dong, Nam Tu Liem, North Tu Liem, Tay Ho, Hoang Mai the green tree density in the people is quite high, exceeding TCVN 9257:2012.
