Brassica microgreens are typically cultivated using a peat-based growing substrate with a higher production cost as this substrate must be imported from overseas. In Vietnam, a source of local bio-materials that could be used to replace imported peat, resulting in more affordable growing substrates.

Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a unique vegetable-fruit possessing several multifarious health benefits. In this study, the plant extraction obtained from grafted bitter gourd onto pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) and nongrafted bitter gourd cultivated under greenhouse conditions were evaluated for their constituents of volatile compounds. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPMEGC-MS) techniques were employed to determine these compounds in the leaves (young, middle, and old-age) and fruits (unripe and ripe) of bitter gourd.

The objective of the study "Effects of some commercial products on root and crown rot caused by Phytophthora cactorum in apple cultivation" was to evaluate the effects of eleven commercial products (bio-pesticides, fertilizers, and activators) on P. cactorum by comparing plant growth parameters (trunk diameter, plant height, number of branches, and root dry weight). Trials were conducted according to a randomized complete block design with three replicates in a greenhouse in 2 consecutive years.

The rose sawfly, Arge rosae L. (Hymenoptera: Argidae), is one of the most destructive pests of roses grown both indoors and outdoors in Antalya province (south-western part of Turkey). Especially in greenhouse rose cultivation, growers depend heavily on synthetic pesticides to control this pest along with other arthropod pests in their crops. The aim of this study was to evaluate biocontrol potential of some indigenous soil-borne entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) against the pest. In pathogenicity assays, a total of 17 EPF isolates, belonging to three species [Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill.

The human population on the planet is estimated to reach 9 billion by 2050; this requires significant increase of food production to meet the demands. Intensified farming systems have been identified as a viable means to increase grain production. Crop production inputs include carbon investment in the form of energy, for the manufacture and use of farm machinery, synthetic fertilizers, crop protection chemicals such as herbicides, insecticides and fungicides, groundwater irrigation and the direct use of fuel in farm operations.

The aim of this study was to recover CO2 greenhouse gas from flue gas of rubber latex dryer by absorption in the bubble tower with water and a solution containing NaCl content, equivalent to Zarrouk medium. Adsorbed CO2 could be converted to HCO3 − at appropriate pH conditions, used as a medium for cultivation of Spirulina platensis (S. platensis) algae to collect biomass and, furthermore, released oxygen which contributes to reducing climate change.

Although, protective cultivation (in soil or soilless media) offers a favorable environment for crop growth, development and consequently, results in higher productivity. However, numerous factors viz. temperature, relative humidity, radiation, evapotranspiration (crop water requirement) vapour pressure deficit, plant stomatal conductance, irrigation, fertigation, disease incidence, leaf wetness duration, electricity cost, diesel fuel cost and labor cost affect the greenhouse cucumber production to a significant degree.

Low cost technology offers an excellent opportunity to grow high value crops during off-season with maximum input use efficiency. This has special relevance in the present day scenario of shrinking land and water resources. At Precision Farming Development Centre, NAU, Navsari technologies related to protected cultivation have been developed. These comprise of basically low (naturally ventilated) and medium cost (fan pad cooling system) greenhouses, in which former type does not require power supply or cooling mechanism.

Progressive increase in urban area, more particularly with construction of buildings is reducing the availability of land for agriculture. The demand for food is also rapidly increasing with increase in population. Hence, it is difficult to feed the growing population with limiting land resources. In that context, there is ample scope for rooftop cultivation to solve the problem of land shortage for agricultural production. Proper irrigation scheduling for crops grown on rooftops is yet to be established. Irrigation scheduling is only possible by knowing the actual crop evapotranspiration.
