  • This paper focuses on the numerical simulation of an incompressible, immiscible, and Newtonian fluid for the contraction process of a fluid compound filament by solving the Navier-Stokes equations. The front-tracking method is used to solve this problem, which uses connected segments (Lagrangian grid) that move on a fixed grid (Eulerian grid) to represent the interface between the liquids.

  • We propose a new monotone finite-difference scheme for the second-order local approximation on a nonuniform grid that approximates the Dirichlet initial boundary value problem (IBVP) for the quasi-linear convection-diffusion equation with unbounded nonlinearity, namely, for the Gamma equation obtained by transformation of the nonlinear Black-Scholes equation into a quasilinear parabolic equation. Using the difference maximum principle, a two-sided estimate and an a priori estimate in the c-norm are obtained for the solution of the difference schemes that approximate this equation.

  • A realistic new sediment–laden water prediction computer model was developed. In this model unsteady non-uniform flow computations were incorporated. Using this model, flooding flow–sediments were simulated and compared to earlier research including hydrologic engineering centre (HEC-series) computer models. Uncertain value of parameters and errors in flow–sediment transport equation in existing coupled flow–sediment models were studied.

  • The aim of this paper is to present an efficient high order accuracy numerical scheme for conservation law on structure grids. The Monotone Upstream Centered Scheme for Conservation Laws (MUSCL) procedure renders the model to preserve the well-balanced property and achieve high accuracy and efficiency for solving nonlinear two dimensional shallow water equations (2DSWE).

  • In this paper, a modified central finite difference scheme for a three-point nonuniform grid is presented for the one-dimensional homogeneous Helmholtz equation using the Bloch wave property. The modified scheme provides highly accurate solutions at the nodes of the nonuniform grid for very small to very large range of wave numbers irrespective of how the grid is adapted throughout the domain.

  • What is the relationship between syntax, prosody and phonetics? This paper argues for a declarative constraint-based theory, in which each step in a derivation adds diverse constraints to a pool. Some of these describe well formed objects in the feature structure domain, in terms of both syntactic and prosodic features. Some characterise the relative prominence of constituents as a partial order over some discrete domain (playing the role of metrical grid). Some are simultaneous equations in the reals, whose solutions represent the pitch level of phonetic objects - high and low tones....
