  • Knowledge about the morphological adaptations of body and wing in birds helps to know about their aerodynamic performance. The present study was aimed to analyze the morphometry of the wing of the blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna) with reference to aerodynamics. Various aerodynamic measurements namely body weight, body length, wing span, wing area, wing load and aspect ratio were measured in three adult male birds. The wings were short, elliptical and rounded.

  • The present study was carried out on the third to fifteenth coccygeal vertebrae of six specimens of adult Blue bull (Boselaphus tragocamelus) of either sex. The Cy3-Cy6 presented complete arches and spinous processes. The transverse processes and cranial non-articular processes were present in Cy3-Cy6 and then reduced in caudal part of the series. The transverse processes were found to be plate like that were directed downward, backward and exceeded beyond the level of the posterior articular surface of the body in Cy3.

  • Mandible was the largest bone of the skull. It was a single bone and consisted of two halves that articulated cranially at intermandibular symphysis. The mandible lodged all the lower teeth. The body was concave dorsoventrally and presented three alveoli for incisors and a large alveolus for canine in each half of the mandible. The labial surface was more extensive than lingual surface. The symphaseal surface faced each other and formed intemandibular symphysis. It was rough and irregular. The rami were right and left and were symmetrical. Each ramus was flattened from side to side.

  • The study was conducted on the femur of four spotted deer. The femur had an average length of 22.4cm and its cylindrical shaft was curved cranially at the middle and distal third of bone. The nutrient foramen is present on the proximal third of cranial surface. The caudal surface had a prominent lateral femoral lip and a developed supra condyloid fossa. The proximal extremity was consisted a medially placed head, greater trochanter and minor trochanter.

  • The present study has been conducted on right and left scapulae of Indian barking deer. The scapular was triangular in outline. Medial surface presented deeper sub-scapular fossa with a distinct foramen at distal 3rd. The lateral surface was divided by a prominent scapular spine into a smaller supra-spinous fossa and a much larger infra-spinous fossa. The caudal border was the thickest of all the borders. Dorsal/vertebral border was notched towards cranial end. The outline of the caudal border in distal third was divided into two distinct ridges.

  • The present gross morphometrical study was carried out on the brain of six healthy birds of Kadaknath Fowl in growing period (7 weeks to 16 weeks). The birds were procured from the Central Poultry Development Organization (CPDO), Eastern Region, Bhubaneswar and the research work was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jharsuguda, OUAT. It was found that the brain of Kadaknath fowl subdivided into cerebrum, cerebellum and medulla oblongata. It was found that the average maximum length and width of the brain were found to be (3.2±0.124) cm and (2.9±0.091) cm respectively.
