The Vietnam Mekong delta (VMD) is a tide-dominated delta formed by the Mekong river system. The sediments are dominantly fine grained and were deposited in the receiving basin with slight inclination of pre-existing deposits in the East sea and gulf of Thailand. The VMD is homeland to about 18 million people that exploit about 4-6 million m3 /day of groundwater mainly for domestic use.

A well-known example is the metabolites of chlorothalonil, a non-systematic, broad spectrum fungicide. Some of the chlorothalonil metabolites occur frequently and at elevated concentrations in groundwater, which is why the use of chlorothalonil was recently banned in the European Union.

We have studied the spatiotemporal evolution of surface deformation in Konya city and its vicinity using advanced multitemporal synthetic aperture radar techniques with SAR data acquired by Envisat, ALOS-1, and Sentinel-1 A/B satellites between 2004 and 2020. Velocity maps and time series show that the city has been subsiding with varying rates in space and time since 2004. The pattern of deformation shows two main lobes of subsidence centered in the western and eastern sides of the city with a nondeforming north-south trending narrow zone in between.

The performances of five biodrainage species were monitored for its soil moisture depletion, groundwater table depression and soil fertility improvement in waterlogged lowland of Indo-Gangetic alluvial plains of West Bengal. The results of the study showed that all biodrainage plantations had differential potential in extracting surplus water from deeper soil layers and consequent recession of groundwater table.

Thus, HCM city often suffered from inundation especially in the rainy season and tide high period.
