Growth and flowering of marigold
-
Production of marigold can be improved to a large extent by the judicious cultural operations i.e. application of optimum fertilizer at required time, crop management practices and use of plant growth regulators. Hence, an experiment was carried out in the Research Farm of Adhiparasakthi Horticultural College, Kalavai, during 2018-19 to find out the effect of plant growth regulators (NAA, GA3) and growth retardants (Maleic hydrazide, Alar) on growth and yield of African marigold var. Pusa Narangi Gainda.

One of the commercially exploited flower crops belonging to the asteraceae family is Marigold. In many states, the commercial extraction of marigold carotenoids is currently becoming popular in our country. Proper crop management techniques are needed to produce cost-effective yields and improve the quality of marigold flowers. Number of harvestings manifest that the harvestings were not far from each other. The average number of harvestings resulted as non-significant.

The present investigation was aimed at determining the effects of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM) on vegetative growth of chrysanthemum var. Marigold plants grown under salinity condition. Entrophospora sp. (VAM) inoculated plants of forty-five days old seedlings (DAS) were transplanted into pots (one seedling per pot) until the flowering. After (75 days) transplanting, seedlings of chrysanthemum var

A field trail was conducted to study the effect of different levels of growth promoters and retardants on growth and flower yield of different cultivars of African marigold. Two PGR’s namely Gibberellins (GA3) and Cycocel (CCC) were taken as growth promoter and growth retardant, respectively. Two cultivars namely Pusa Narangi Gainda and Pusa Basanti Gainda were taken to evaluate their suitability in Chhattisgarh. The result indicated that the growth and flower yield were significantly influenced by different plant growth regulators and cultivars.

An field experiment was conducted to study the effect of planting dates and pinching levels on growth, flowering in African marigold cv. Arkaagni under open condition. The experiment was laid out with twelve treatment combinations at College of Horticulture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during 2017 - 2018, with four planting dates and three levels of pinching. 2nd fortnight of October planting resulted in more plant spread, primary and secondary branches per plant and also increased several floral characters like flower diameter, number and weight of flowers per plant and yield per hectare.

Floriculture has blossomed into commercial activity with a considerable growth and a useful crop diversification option, particularly for small farmers over the past three decades. India has now emerged as second largest grower of flowers after china. In Jammu and Kashmir the practice of flower cultivation at commercial scale by individual growers is at its infancy stage in the state; however commercial cultivation is gradually increasing with boost from the state government.

Marigold is susceptible to a number of fungal diseases, among Alternaria leaf spot and flower blight caused by Alternaria tagetica was the most destructive and economically important disease may cause upto 50-60 % yield losses. In this experiment seven different systemic, contact and combi product fungicides were tested in different concentrations against Alternaria tagetica under in vitro condition. The results revealed that, among the fungicide tested, inhibition of growth of the fungus ranged from 61.81 per cent to 100.00 per cent.

The present study was conducted in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh, with the objective to know the trend value and growth rate of area, production and productivity of marigold flower. Madhya Pradesh has 52 districts out of them Ratlam district cover highest area of marigold i.e. approximately 28 percent. The result of trend and growth of area, production and productivity was found positive in all blocks of Ratlam district but, in case of Alot and Sailana blocks, the trend value and simple growth rate (SGR) of area and production was observed negative.
