Growth hormone deficiency
-
Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is one of the most important endocrine and treatable causes of short stature. Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) concentration is not recommended to establish the diagnosis of GHD. The aim of our study was to analyze the relevance of IGF-1 concentration as a screening test for the diagnosis of GHD.

Tbx5 deficiency in zebrafish causes several abnormal phenotypes of the heart and pectoral fins. It has been reported that exogenous human growth hormone can enhance expression of downstream mediators in the growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) pathway and partially restore dysmorphogenesis in tbx5 morphants.

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) is an important tropical nut crop of social and economic importance worldwide. World‟s total area under cashew cultivation is around 35100 km2 . Despite the economic importance of cashew with increasing cultivation globally, the crop is threatened with the problems of low yield with world‟s average raw cashew nut yield is as low as 780 kg ha-1 .

Fruit Crops yield and quality significantly increase with the use of micronutrients such as zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), Calcium (Ca) Magnesium (Mg) Boron (B), Copper (Cu), Manganese (Mn), etc. Zinc (Zn) has an important metabolically role in plants vegetative and reproductive phases; growth and development; is therefore called an essential trace element or a micronutrient.

The objective of this study was to assess vitamin D status in children with GH deficiency due to pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS) and to investigate the relationship between 25- hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25 (OH) 2D) serum levels and patient characteristics.

The vitamins are a chemically disparate group of compounds whose only common feature is that they are dietary essentials that are required in small amounts for the normal functioning of the body and maintenance of metabolic integrity.Metabolically, they have diverse functions, such as coenzymes, hormones, antioxidants, mediators of cell signaling, and regulators of cell and tissue growth and differentiation.

The rationale for the guideline is that whilst growth is documented in a proportion of those receiving renal replacement therapy (published in the UK Renal Registry report) there is scope for improving identification of growth failure in children at an earlier stage. Identification and treatment of nutritional deficiencies and metabolic abnormalities should be aggressively pursued with respect to linear growth. Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) should be considered if there is growth failure despite the treatment of nutritional deficiencies and metabolic abnormalities 20 .

Magnesium deficiency is very often present and quite severe. Hyperreflexia, muscle twitches, myocardial irritability, poor stamina and recurrent tight muscle spasms are clues to this deficiency. Magnesium is predominantly an intracellular ion, so blood level testing is of little value. Oral preparations are acceptable for maintenance, but those with severe deficiencies need additional, parenteral dosing: 1 gram IV or IM at least once a week until neuromuscular irritability has cleared. Pituitary and other endocrine abnormalities are far more common than generally realized.

Osteoporosis and fractures may increase due to hypoestrogenism in menopause and cytochrome P450 inducing AEDs. Recent studies suggest lower bone mineral density (BMD) in adults and children with epilepsy, irrespective of AED treatment. Both idiopathic epilepsy and symptomatic epilepsy are associated with reduced BMD, with the greatest reduction in symptomatic generalized epilepsy (Sheth & Hermann, 2008). However, the pathophysiological underlying mechanisms are far from understood and likely multifactorial.

Zinc Zinc is an integral component of many metalloenzymes in the body; it is involved in the synthesis and stabilization of proteins, DNA, and RNA and plays a structural role in ribosomes and membranes. Zinc is necessary for the binding of steroid hormone receptors and several other transcription factors to DNA. Zinc is absolutely required for normal spermatogenesis, fetal growth, and embryonic development.
