Brinjal is an important vegetables crop grown in India. The leaf mold is an important disease causing yield loss in Manipur region. Among the plant extracts studied garlic at both concentrations (3 and 6%) showed maximum growth inhibition, whereas among the fungicides propiconazole and hexaconazole showed the maximum efficiency in inhibition of growth over the control. The sporulation was completely inhibited in all the treatments studied.

An experiment was carried out during the year 2014-15 to 2016-17 in the polyhouse of AINP on Agricultural Acarology to estimate the losses due two spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Tetranychidae: Acari). The estimated loss in brinjal due to two spotted spider mite, T. urticae on different plant growth characters like plant height, number of branches per plant, number of fruits per plant and fruit weight ranging between 8.24 to 33.65, 7.84 to 13.35, 26.94 to 64.93 and 15.29 to 81.10 per cent, respectively.

Brinjal is one of the important vegetable crops growing in India. Fruit rot brinjal caused by Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum melongenae and Phomopsis vexans is one of the important diseases of brinjal. Hence, in this investigation, critical growth studies were done to understand the pathogen behaviour. The nutritional studies were taken up to know the best medium required for the growth and sporulation of the all three pathogens.

The present study was carried out at AB District Seed Farm, BCKV, Kalyani Simanta, West Bengal, India during spring-summer 2012-13 and 2013-14, autumn-winter 2013-14 and 2014-15 with 40 brinjal genotypes in Randomized Block Design with two replications. Highly significant differences were observed for majority of the characters for the two factors viz., genotypes (G) and season (S) and their interaction (G X S). Paired t-test also clearly demonstrated the influence of season on the performance of eggplant germplasm.

Phomopsis vexans affected stem and fruit of brinjal crop collected from the field and isolated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) produced white cottony growth, sub-aerial mycelial, circular shaped colony with indistinct zonation and good sporulation. Pigmentation is yellow to dark brown colour. Pycnidia formation takes place after 18 to 20 days which are dark brown in colour and scattered distribution on the media surface.

Understanding the genetic variability and diversity of a crops species provides opportunity for plant breeders to develop new and improved cultivars having both farmer-preferred and breeder-preferred traits. In the present study 11 morphological characters and 16 quantitative characters were recorded from 27 advance breeding lines/varieties to identify useful alleles for future breeding. Genotypes varied considerably in plant growth and morphological characters. The overall mean of ShannonWiener diversity index (H’) value was 0.

A microbial consortium consisting of Azospirillum, phosphate solubilizing bacterium (Pseudomonas striata), potassium solubilizing bacterium, PGPR (plant growth promoting rhizobacterium) strain (Pseudomonas sp. B15) and lactic acid bacterium (Leuconostoc mesenteroides) with antifungal activities was prepared. It effect on the growth and biomass of different vegetable seedlings raised in nursery protrays was evaluated in a commercial farmer’s nursery. The microbial inoculation resulted in improved plant height and biomass. The per cent increase in plant height and girth of tomato was 57.

A comparative study on 16 brinjal genotypes (15 hybrids and 1 open pollinated variety) for growth and yield attributing parameters was conducted at Indira Gandhi Krishi Viswavidhyalaya, Raipur, during rabi 2012-2013.The three tallest hybrids were 2012/BRRHYB-5 and 2012/BRRHYB-7 which are also the hybrids with most number of branches 120 days after transplanting. The fruits of Kashi Sandesh and Swarna Mani Black had thickest pericarp and are also statistically superior in fruit girth. In the present findings, the higher pericarp thickness may be due to the higher fruit girth.

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) can be grown best under tropical and subtropical conditions of our country. It is of great importance because its fruits have medicinal value. As it is a warm season crop, factors like high temperature, excessive soil humidity, excessive salinity, water stress adversely affect the crop growth and yield.

An attempt has been made in the present investigation to assess the influence of various biometrical characters across different growth stages in Brinjal crop yield along with various yield attributing characters across four growth stages using ANN models. Results of seedling stage had indicated that plant height, girth and number of primary branches could together predict the crop yield to an extent of 83 % for training set and 62 % for validation of model accuracy.
