Growth performance of tomato
-
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is known as the most important vegetable crop that is widely cultivated throughout the world. Improvements of the growth, development, and productivity have become core strategies for the sustainable development of tomato in many countries. Here, we performed an intensive summary of recent applications of genome editing in customizing the growth habits and fruit quality in tomato plants.

The present study was carried out to know the performance of cherry tomato genotypes for different traits attributing for growth, yield and quality in cherry tomato at the Division of Vegetable Crops College of Horticulture, Bagalkot (Karnataka), India during the period between September 2015 to February 2016. Among the genotypes used for investigation BCT-8 showed highest plant height (126.20 cm), highest number of primary (6.3) and secondary branches (13.5) and highest yield per plant in (1779.6g). Highest TSS was registered in BCT-27 (8.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have gained worldwide importance and have been identified in influencing the growth and yield of many plants. On account of that, an attempt was made in the present investigation to study plant growth promoting activities of bacteria isolated from rhizospheric region of different crop fields from khorda district, Odisha, India. A total of nine bacteria was isolated and they were further characterized for their different plant growth promoting activities like production of Indole acetic acid (IAA), HCN, Siderophore & Phosphate solubilization.

Crop water Requirement (CWR) is the key to design a suitable irrigation system for a particular crop. In this paper CWR of major vegetable crops for six agro-climatic zones of Madhya Pradesh is estimated on the basis of Reference Evapotranspiration. The study is performed for major vegetable crops namely tomato, onion, pea, brinjal, potato and okra. The crop water requirement found to vary with stages of the crop growth and the reference evapotranspiration.

Rural development as an integrated concept of growth and poverty elimination has been of paramount concern in all the consequent Government Schemes. The major challenge for our Governments is to offer solution that enables rain fed farming towards sustainable agriculture. “Krishi Bhagya” is the Government„s flagship programme is a step towards to achive sustainability among rainfed farmers of the state. Government is supporting farmers to make a farm pond with polythene lining (to prevent percolation), install pump and sprinkler irrigation system (for efficient water utilization).
