The age at menarche (AAM) is commonly in use in patients with IS as one of the maturity indicator suggesting deceleration of the growth velocity. The AAM was suggested to be related to predisposition and curve progression potential of IS.

Height velocity (HV) is traditionally used to monitor the residual growth potential in idiopathic scoliosis (IS). The temporal timing of rapid increase in standing height often does not match exactly that of the increase in spine height.

Pre-pubertal idiopathic scoliosis (IS) is associated with high risk of bracing ineffectiveness. Integrated multidimensional maturity assessments are useful but complex to predict the high-risk occurrence of curve progression.

We study the higher differentiability of stationary solutions up to the flat boundary for a class of systems of fluid mechanics modelling flows of incompressible fluids with shear and pressure dependent viscosity in 2D or 3D. We consider systems which are a kind of generalized Navier-Stokes system where stress tensor T has linear growth in symmetric velocity gradient and dependence of viscosity on the pressure is small with respect to an ellipticity constant.

Dispersal of glioblastoma (GBM) cells leads to recurrence and poor prognosis. Accordingly, molecular pathways involved in dispersal are potential therapeutic targets. The mitogen activated protein kinase/extracellular signal regulated kinase (MAPK/ERK) pathway is commonly dysregulated in GBM, and targeting this pathway with MEK inhibitors has proven effective in controlling tumor growth.

Malnutrition is still public health problem in some parts of the world and causes irreversible damage at infant stage. Infants require high energy and nutrient dense foods because of their high growth velocity. Feeding fortified complementary blended foods is one of the options to treat malnourished infants. These foods are prepared with cereallegume blend, oil, sugar, vitamin/minerals and animal source protein. Complementary foods with high sugar content (> 15%) are not recommended to treat malnourished group. Animal source protein in complementary foods leads to hike in production cost.

Children with longstanding use of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) are susceptible to developing low bone mineral density and an increased fracture risk. However, the literature regarding the effects of AEDs on growth in epileptic children is limited.

Computerized mathematical models describing absolute and relative individual growth during puberty in both cm and standard deviation (SD)-scores are lacking. The present study aimed to fill this gap, by applying the QEPS-model that delineates mathematically the specific pubertal functions of the total growth curve.

Seasonality and determinants of child growth velocity and growth deficit in rural southwest Ethiopia
Ethiopia faces cyclic food insecurity that alternates between pre- and post- harvest seasons. Whether seasonal variation in access to food is associated with child growth has not been assessed empirically. Understanding seasonality of child growth velocity and growth deficit helps to improve efforts to track population interventions against malnutrition.

Antiretroviral treatment (ART) has been shown to have a beneficial effect on the weight evolution but its effect on height remains unclear. We described patterns of height evolution and identified predictors of catch-up growth in HIV-infected children on ART.

The effects of several physical parameters on the water sheet oscillation are studied by determining the variation of the temporal growth rate with the wavenumber. It is found that a larger relative steam velocity to water velocity has a tendency to destabilize the water sheet with increased dynamic pressure. On the other hand, a larger ratio of steam boundary layer to the half water sheet thickness has a stabilizing effect on the water sheet oscillation.

The research results for radial cracking cases indicate that a better agreement for KIH can be achieved; the negative axial thermal stresses can lessen KIH and enlarge the critical hydride length, so its effect should be considered in the safety evaluation and constraint design for fuel rods; the critical hydride length lC changes slightly in a certain range of stress intensity factors, which interprets the phenomenon that the DHC velocity varies slowly in the steady crack growth stage.

The effect of 2 growth regulators, betaine and thiourea, was examined to learn the extent to which they can alleviate salinity-induced dormancy of wheat seeds. Germination velocity (as measured by Timson index) progressively decreased with increasing salinity, while thiourea and betaine, alone or in combination, elevated the germination velocity of wheat seeds.

Fisher’s logic led Milton Friedman to conclude that central banks should simply set money growth at a constant rate. Policymakers should strive to ensure that the monetary aggregates grow at a rate equal to the rate of real growth plus the desired level of inflation,...

To shift the focus to inflation, we need to look at changes in the price level. Suppose that inflation exceeds money growth (with velocity held constant). Real money balances will fall and so will aggregate demand.Because real money balances fall at higher levels of inflation, resulting in a lower level of aggregate demand, the aggregate demand curve is downward sloping. Changes in the interest rate also provide a mechanism for aggregate demand to slope down.

Control analysis of the glycolytic flux was carried out in two fast-growth tumor cell types of human and rodent origin (HeLa and AS-30D, respect-ively). Determination of the maximal velocity (Vmax) of the 10 glycolytic enzymes from hexokinase to lactate dehydrogenase revealed that hexokin-ase (153–306 times) and phosphfructokinase-1 (PFK-1) (22–56 times) had higher over-expression in rat AS-30D hepatoma cells than in normal freshly isolated rat hepatocytes.

International credit, defined here as foreign currency and cross-border credit, can pose particular risks to an economy that is experiencing rapid domestic credit growth. Financial crises in the past two decades have often followed periods of rapid credit expansion accompanied by buoyant asset prices in equity and real estate. In Asia, these risks became evident in the Asian financial crisis of 1997–98. More recently, the countries most affected by the global financial crisis have demonstrated these risks anew.
