Bồng Nga truật, or Fingerroot, (Boesenbergia rotunda (L.) Mansf syn. Boesenbergia pandurata (Roxb.) Schltr.), also known as Ngải bún, is a common ginger species in Mekong Delta. Its tuber roots and rhizomes are often used to cook rice noodles as an alternative to Tumeric (Curcuma longa L.). Despite being used commonly in Indonesia and Thailand, the plant has not been used and researched as a herb in Vietnam. This research was for starting projects to increase the value of this species.

In Mekong delta, mangrove forest distributes along the coastline of 700 km and it is a homeland for mud crab in tropical areas. The mud crab becomes potential to be alternative species from failed shrimp farming. Particularly, mud crab hatchery has been introduced and operated recently at Bac lieu, Tra vinh, Soc Trang, Ben Tre, Kien giang and Ca mau provinces. However, the survival from zoea stage to crablet stage 1 is low at approximately 5%. In addition, like shrimp rearing, the mud crab hatchery is using antibiotic as major treatment to prevent bacteria and fungi.

The rapid growth of the fruit industry in the Mekong Delta area of Vietnam has seen the emergence of many problems, including a shortage of planting material, inadequate nursery and orchard management, lack of agribusiness and marketing skills. These problems could not be improved with existing level of government extenstion service.
