Hair morphology

Marrubium zeydanlii (Lamiaceae) is described as a new species from Turkey. It is similar to M. depauperatum and M. sivasense; however, it is distinguished from M. depauperatum by having lanate hairs on the stem, oblanceolate dentate leaves, 4–6-flowered verticillasters. It is also distinguished from M. sivasense by having lanate hairs on the stem, oblanceolate leaves, and shorter petals. The pollen grains are radially symmetrical and isopolar, the shape is oblate-spheroidal with the polar axes 16.7–20 µm and the equatorial axes 17.6–19.3 µm.

Hedysarum alamutense, a new species in the tribe Hedysareae DC. (Fabaceae), is described and illustrated. It belongs to the traditionally recognized Hedysarum L. section Multicaulia (Boiss.) B.Fedtsch., which extends over the West Alborz Mountains in northern Iran. This species is characterized by greenish stems and corolla persisting in fruiting stage and has mostly 1–2-jointed, unarmed, biconvex pods with short hairs becoming bald early, and flattened margins. Phylogenetic analyses of molecular data clearly unite this species with H. formosum Fisch. & C.A.Mey. ex Basin.

Recently, the innovative vein finder system has been studied extensively and has many practical uses in healthcare and security. Developing a better vein finder system often relies on image processing procedures which help to enhance the vein images. Conventional image processing procedures as median filtering and adaptive histogram equalization have shown benefit in enhancing vein patterns. However, in some cases when there are hairs present in the images, most of these procedures are less effective in removing noises from hairs.

The microscopic characteristics of dorsal guard hairs of Hyaena hyaena were examined using optical light microscope to know its hair morphology. The hair of H. hyaena is diagnosed by its unique medullary characteristics i.e. the composition of medulla- ‘unicellular regular’, structure of medulla- ‘simple or narrow medulla lattice’ and the ‘oblong’ shape cross-section. The photo-micrographs and characteristics of dorsal guard hairs are presented here may be used for the species identification.

Sorghum is an essential crop in the semi-arid tropics being attacked by nearly 150 species of insects, out of which Chilo partellus is the more devastating pest. Based on the foliar damage the resistance and susceptible genotypes of sorghum can be screened. For further understanding of the host plant resistance relationship between sorghum and stem borer the orientation behaviour and larval establishment behaviour can be studied. The host plant resistance in sorghum to C. partellus can be either morphological or biochemical.

Field trial was conducted for two consecutive years during kharif 2017 and 2018 at farmer`s field, Kadarmandalagi by using randomized block design (RBD). Guaiacol peroxidase play remarkable role in suberin biosynthesis on epidermis, cortex accompanied with increased root diameter, and endodermis cell walls with hydrogen peroxide spray treatment under normal conditions for plant growth i.e. November. An experiment was conducted to find out the effect of integrated nutrient management on nutrient concentration and uptake of Grafted tomato during 2017-2018 at Central Horticultural Experiment Station (Aiginia), Bhubaneswar with inorganic and organic nutrient sources. The experimental results of grafted tomato with INM package showed that Nutrient content of fruit was higher in non-grafted tomato than grafted tomatoes. Whereas, in harvested plant sample nutrient content was higher in grafted tomato.

This study presents macro- and micromorphological characters, including fruit and seed shape, size, colour, fruiting pedicel size, fruit hair and density, seed coat pattern, epidermal cell shape, and anticlinal and periclinal cell walls.
