Ebook "Polyextremophiles: Life under multiple forms of stress (Cellular origin, life in extreme habitats and astrobiology, Volume 27)" provides novel results of application to polyextremophiles research ranging from nanotechnology to synthetic biology to the origin of life and beyond. Many Microorganisms and some macro-organisms can live under extreme conditions. For example, high and low temperature, acidic and alkaline conditions, high salt areas, high pressure, toxic compounds, high level of ionizing radiation, anoxia and absence of light, etc.

The research article "Polyester production by halophilic and halotolerant bacterial strains obtained from mangrove soil samples located in Northern Vietnam" reports halophilic and halotolerant bacteria isolated from mangrove forests located in Northern Vietnam. Several of these bacteria were able to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). PHAs are polyesters stored by microorganisms under the presence of considerable amounts of a carbon source and deficiency of other essential nutrient such as nitrogen or phosphorous.

Different types of halophiles have solved the problem how to hope with salt stress (and often with other forms of stress as well) in different ways, so that the study of microbial life at high salt concentrations can answer many basic questions on the adaptation of microorganisms to their environments. Most known halophiles are relatively easy to grow, and genera such as Halobacterium, Haloferax.

This article presents aquatic wastewater treatment with the addition of probiotics. Due to the high salinity (5–10‰), the microorganisms are inactive because plasmolysis occurs in the presence of table salt, the contraction of the protoplasm away from the cell wall of the bacteria due to dehydration under the action of osmotic pressure, leading to gaps between the cells and the cell membranes.

Halophiles are group of microorganisms known for their ability to survive in conditions of extreme salinity and also temperature. They fall under all three domains of life and categorized into three groups based on the requirement of NaCl for their survival as slight halophiles, moderate halophiles and extreme halophiles.

The hides are cured with salt obtained from Tuz Lake in Turkish Leather Industry. Salt obtained from natural salt sources contains extremely halophilic archaea and these microorganisms reduce the quality of leather. Most of antibacterial agents used in leather industry cannot effectively inactivate extremely halophilic archaea because of the high salt concentration in brine solutions.

Knowledge of the functions, interactions, and diversity of extremely halophilic microorganisms mostly comes from the results of studies performed in different salterns throughout the world. As model habitats, salterns allow the comparison of different techniques used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of halophilic communities in these hypersaline environments.
