This study shows that Escherichia coli and S.aureus are the commonest pathogenic organisms associated with the surgical site infection. Isolation of CONS in high cases shows breach in asepsis protocols. Appropriate hand hygiene, strict infection control practice will reduce the rate of SSI, cost of treatment and mortality and morbidity of patients.

Hand hygiene is considered as the most effective method of controlling health care related infections. The present study was conducted to determine the awareness of hand washing among Health care personnel (HCP) and to compare the microbial flora of dominant and non-dominant hands of HCP. Sixty-nine HCP were interviewed using a pre-validated questionnaire regarding compliance of hand washing practices. Their dominant hand was noted. Using the sterile pre-moistened swab sticks sample was collected from both hands of HCP and cultivated on Blood Agar.

This study was designed to isolate and determine the antibiotic sensitivity pattern of bacteria associated with the hands of commuters in Akure metropolis. The samples were collected using sterile swab sticks at different motor parks (Obaile, Oke-Ijebu, Benin, FUTA and Road block), then transported to Microbiology laboratory for further analyses. Isolation of microorganisms was carried by direct plating on the bacteriological media. The plates were incubated at 37oC for 24 hours. Enumeration of the bacterial isolates was done by direct count of the colonies formed on the plates.

Food borne diseases pose an important public health problem in developed and developing countries. The spread of food borne diseases via food handlers is a common and persistent problem worldwide. In developed countries, up to 30% of the population suffers from food borne diseases each year, whereas in developing countries up to 2 million deaths are estimated per year (WHO, Geneva 2007). Objectives of the study are to know the prevalence intestinal parasites and rate of hand washing practices among the food handlers.

Lack of an efficient antibiotic treatment for Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) infection has resulted in more focus on the preventive measures against this foodborne pathogen. To determine the contaminating sources of EHEC in beef production lines, 1056 samples including dung, hide, operator hand wash, knife wash, surface swabs, beef carcass swabs, water, air and beef samples were collected from four different slaughter houses situated in Kerala, India. An overall occurrence of 7.

Microbial contamination of mobile phones a potential threat to the patients: A cross sectional study
Mobile communication devices help accelerate the hospital flow of medical information but can serve as a "foe" for the patients when they act as a potential vector for transmitting nosocomial infections. This study aimed to describe the role of the cell phones in transmitting bacteria to dominant hands of the HCW’s in the various ICU’s as MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences, emphasizing the role of mobiles in the spread of HAI. It was a cross-sectional study including HCW’s at various ICU’s in our hospital.
