The objective of this study is to evaluate the predictive performance of three semi-theoretical approaches for modeling viscosity of binary liquid mixtures composed of 1-alcohols. For the mixtures that contain 1-alcohols with a similar number of carbon atoms, three schemes including the Rough Hard-Sphere model, the McAllister model, and UNIFAC-VISCO were demonstrated to be able to reproduce the mixture viscosity with an average deviation of 5%.

Nitrogen-doped porous hard carbons are synthesized by hydrothermal carbonization method (HTC) using glucosamine as biosource and treated at different carbonization temperatures in nitrogen environment (500, 750, 1000°C). The electrochemical performances of hard carbons electrode materials for aqueous electrolyte sodium ion batteries are examined to observe the effect of two different voltage ranges (–0.8-0.0) V and (0.0-0.8) V in 1.0 M Na2SO4 aqueous electrolyte.

Using a molecular dynamics (MD) model, we subject a nanocrystalline carbon steel work piece to grinding by hard alumina abrasives and study material removal and surface topography. A second, much larger MD model allows us to additionally study the microstructural and stress response of a polycrystalline ferritic work piece with a grain size that qualitatively reproduces macroscopic material behavior.

The templated porous carbons were prepared from sucrose by one-pot method. In this method in which the pre-synthesis of the hard template is eliminated, the porous carbons were produced by organic-inorganic self-assembly of sucrose, tetraethyl ortosilicate (TEOS), Pluronic P123 and n-butanol in an acidic medium, and subsequent carbonization. The synthesis parameters such as sucrose amount, TEOS molar ratio and carbonization temperature were evaluated for describing their effects on the pore structures of the synthesized carbons.

The electrolytes of 1 M NaFSI dissolved in various carbonate solvents containing EC, PC and/or DMC have been investigated to find out the most compatible electrolyte composition with hard carbon (HC) anode in Na-ion batteries (NIBs). The physical properties including viscosity and conductivity were measured to correlate with the electrochemical behaviors of these electrolytes. The Na/HC half-cell was used for testing the charge/discharge performance of prepared electrolytes at room temperature.

This paper assessed impact of dilution on the microstructure and properties of the Ni alloy In 625 deposited by Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) on two substrates: carbon steel API 5LX70 (API 5L) and stainless steel AISI 316L. Differences due to the interaction with the substrate were maximized analyzing single layer coatings, processed with three deposition current: 120 A, 150 A and 180 A. Dilution was determined by the area ratio and Vickers hardness measured on the transverse section of coatings.

A gas metal arc welding robot was used to build a thin-walled component made of mild steel on a low-carbon substrate according to the AM principle. Thereafter, the specimens for observing microstructures and mechanical properties were extracted from the built thin-walled component. The microstructures of the specimen were observed by an optical microscope; the hardness was measured by a digital microhardness tester, and the tensile tests were carried out on a tensile test machine.

In this work, highly ordered mesoporous graphitic carbon (G-CMK3) has been prepared successfully by a nano-casting method using sucrose as carbon source, mesoporous silica as hard template, and soybean oil as surfactant. In the absence of soybean oil surfactant, the synthesized ordered mesoporous carbon material, CMK-3, revealed a low graphitization degree with a specific surface area of 1049.1 m2 /g and a high pore volume of 1.172 cm3 /g.

In this paper, the effects of the welding current in the WAAM process on the shape and the microstructure evolution of thin-walled low-carbon steel components were studied. For this purpose, the thin-walled low-carbon steel samples were built layer-by-layer on the substrates by using an industrial gas metal arc welding robot with different levels of the welding current. The shape, microstructures, and mechanical properties of the thin-walled samples were then analyzed.
