Whole genome sequencing is increasingly being used for the diagnosis of patients with rare diseases. However, the diagnostic yields of many studies, particularly those conducted in a healthcare setting, are often disap‑ pointingly low, at 25–30%. This is in part because although entire genomes are sequenced, analysis is often confined to in silico gene panels or coding regions of the genome.

The CDS intervention was highly effective at improving problem list completeness. However, the improvement in problem list utilization was not associated with improvement in the quality measures. The lack of effect on quality measures suggests that problem list documentation is not directly associated with improvements in quality measured by National Committee for Quality Assurance Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (NCQA HEDIS) quality measures.

Back pain represents a substantial burden globally, ranking first in a recent assessment among causes of years lived with disability. Though back pain is widely studied among working age adults, there are gaps with respect to basic descriptive epidemiology among seniors, especially in the United States.

Hydatidosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus. It mostly involves liver and lungs whereas the unusual sites are spleen, kidney, peritoneal cavity, skin, muscles, heart, brain, vertebral column, ovaries, pancreas, gallbladder, thyroid gland, breast, and bones. Herein, we describe a unique case of intrapleural hydatid cyst which was solely confined to the pleural space without involvement of lung parenchyma and other associated structures.

Antimicrobial resistance is considered a major health threat for patients and healthcare providers. It challenges the control of infectious diseases, jeopardizes any medical progress and imposes huge treatment costs. This study aimed to design an effective antibiotic policy for treatment of different types of infections at Gastrointestinal Surgical Center, Mansoura, Egypt in order to reduce antibiotic resistance, and to minimize unnecessary costs. From 1/1/2019 to 31/12/2019, samples were obtained according to the site of infection, cultured on suitable media.

Sepsis in modern surgery continues to be a significant problem for healthcare practitioners across the globe.1 Since initial antimicrobial therapy usually remains empiric; the knowledge of prevailing susceptibility patterns at individual institutions is a must. To determine the etiology of surgical site infections (SSI) in patients admitted to a tertiary care teaching hospital, study its antibiogram and the prevalence of ESBL. 200 patients who developed SSI in a teaching hospital during a period of one year were prospectively studied.

The genus Camelus was probably among the last of the major domestic species to be put to regular use by man. There is a little direct evidence for an exact time of domestication, mainly because the camel has changed relatively little as a result of selection and, whereas it is possible at archaeological sites to observe the changes in other species, this is not the case for camels. Since the early camel owners were nomadic, they left few permanent mementoes of their presence. The most likely time of domestication, however, is about 4000 years BP (before present).

Welfare facilities such as refreshments, first aid, foot massage and toilets can be made available even within a small event site. You may want to include entertainment such as music or street theatre for people waiting to start and for any friends/supporters not doing the walk. If you are planning to sell alcohol or have what is known as ‘regulated entertainment’ (which includes music and dancing) you will need to have a licence from the local authority. They will be able to tell you if your venue already has a licence and will give you details of how...

In 2010, an estimated 16 million operative procedures were performed in the United States.1 A recent prevalence study found that SSIs were the most common healthcare-associated infection, accounting for 31% of all HAIs among hospitalized patients.2 NHSN data for 2006-2008 (16,147 SSIs following 849,659 operative procedures) showed an overall SSI rate of 1.9%.

At present, the main field of biosensor applications is still the determination of blood glu‐ cose, as over 90% of all commercial biosensors are developed for diabetes control. However, regardless of the remarkable success in the development of glucose biosensors, there are nu‐ merous other emerging fields to be addressed, particularly the monitoring of environment, healthcare and medical diagnostics.

The impacts of climate change and air pollution are particularly difficult to identify with a high degree of confidence. One of the main reasons for this is that climate and air pollution are rarely measured at sites where biodiversity is monitored so potential relationships can only be assessed by using interpolated national data.

A recent report 10 from mainland China concluded that HPV DNA testing is highly sensitive and moderately specific for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 3 or worse (CIN3+; CIN3 is the usual immediate precursor to invasive cervical cancer), with consistent results across study sites and age groups. This paper reviewed reports of more than 30,000 women from population-based screening studies done between 1999 and 2008, with the aim of assessing whether HPV DNA testing could be applied to cervical cancer screening programs in China.
