  • The proportional relationship between the infrared (IR) transmittance of a transparent material and its IR-induced heat transfer can be explained via a simple model. An agreement between the theory and the experimental work was examined by measuring the temperature rising inside a heat-insulated box with glass windows under IR irradiation, where the material of the glass windows was modified from corning glass (CG) to 9 at% Nb-doped TiO2 (TNO) fabricated by sputtering deposition.

  • Gulabjamun is traditional dairy product of the Indian subcontinent. The physico-thermal properties of Gulabjamun during sub-baric frying were analyzed at varying temperatures. The Gulabjamun balls were fried at three temperatures 110,115 and 120°C for 300s.The average sphericity values of Gulabjamun were derived from the dimensions measured along the three major axes as 0.969  0.002 to 0.989  0.002. The expansion ratio values varied from 1.338  0.10 to1.410  0.06 after 300s of frying. The Apparent density values decreased with increase in the frying temperatures.

  • (BQ) This paper describes the heat source diameter of single pulse discharge in electrical discharge machining. To observe the discharge plasma, SiC and Ga2O3 single crystals were used as the electrode material since they are optically transparent and electrically conductive. It was found that plasma diameter expands within a few microseconds after dielectric breakdown and the plasma diameter is much larger than the discharge crater.

  • Effect of wollastonite nanofibers on the improvement of thermal conductivity coefficient of Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) was studied here to find a possible solution to decrease hot-press time as a bottle-neck during composite production. Nanowollastonite was applied at 10%, based on the dry weight of wood fibers. Density of the control MDF boards was 0.66 g/cm3. Thermal conductivity coefficient was measured using an apparatus based on Fourier’s Law for heat conduction.

  • A study to measure indoor concentrations and emission rates of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including formaldehyde, was conducted in a new, unoccupied manufactured house installed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) campus. The house was instrumented to continuously monitor indoor temperature and relative humidity, heating and air conditioning system operation, and outdoor weather. It also was equipped with an automated tracer gas injection and detection system to estimate air change rates every 2 h.
