CRC with liver metastases is a major contributor to cancer-related mortality. Despite advancements in liver resection techniques, patient survival remains a concern due to high recurrence rates. This study seeks to uncover prognostic biomarkers that predict overall survival in patients undergoing curative hepatic resection for CRC liver metastases.

Our primary objective was to assess whether these miRNAs could serve as potential biomarkers for distinguishing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), even in its early stages, from other liver diseases, particularly liver cirrhosis (LC).

As a histone methyltransferase, suppressor of variegation 3–9 homolog 1 (SUV39H1) plays an important role in the occurrence and development of cancer. To explore the mechanism and biological function of SUV39H1 in hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma (HBV-HCC) can gain an insight into the pathogenesis of HBV-HCC.

The lack of effective and accurate predictive indicators remains a major bottleneck for the improvement of the prognosis of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hepatitis B virus X (HBx) has been widely suggested as a critical pathogenic protein for HBV-driven liver carcinogenesis, while tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) infltration is also closely related to the tumorigenesis and progression of HCC.

This study investigated whether the composition of fatty acids in hepatic tissue of four fish species from Sabine Lake (TX), influenced hepatic body-burdens of pollutants. The multivariate correlations between hepatic bodyburdens of sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and twenty-nine polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), with thirty-seven fatty acids was studied.

A study was carried out to evaluate the hepatoprotective property of Alternanthera sessilis in CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in rats. A total of 36 Wister rats were selected for the purpose of study, segregated into six different groups having six numbers of animals in each. Group T1 was kept as negative control and fed standard basal diet for a period of four weeks. Group T2 was kept as positive control and subjected to CCl4 plus liquid paraffin (50% v/v) treatment at the rate of 2ml/kg body weight twice a week for three weeks.

Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) virus infection is a major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), as late diagnosis is the main factor for the poor survival of patients. There is an urgent need for accurate biomarkers for early diagnosis of HCC. The aim of the study was to explore the serum lipidome profiles of hepatitis B-related HCC to identify potential diagnostic biomarkers.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a frequent type of primary liver cancer, and its prevalence is increasing worldwide. Indeed, the underlying molecular mechanism is not well understood. Previous studies have shown evidence that tight junction (TJ) components were correlated with carcinogenesis and tumor development.

The lack of predictive biomarkers or test systems contributes to high failure rates of systemic therapy in metastasized colorectal carcinoma, accounting for a still unfavorable prognosis. Here, we present an ex vivo functional assay to measure drug-response based on a tissue slice culture approach.

Circulatory microRNAs have recently emerged as non-invasive and effective biomarkers for diagnosis of various diseases. Currently there is no reliable biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis or even staging of fibrotic and cirrhotic complications arising from HCV infection. This study aimed at investigating plasma miR484, miR-524, miR-615-5p and miR-628-3p expression signatures in Egyptian patients with HCV mediated cirrhosis, fibrosis and HCC.

Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical roles in pathogen–host interactions. Aberrant miRNA expression profiles might have specific characteristics for virus strains, and could serve as noninvasive biomarkers for screening and diagnosing infectious diseases. In this study, we aimed to find new potential miRNA biomarkers of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

While there has been an increase in development assistance for health in general, this aid is volatile — often driven by profits and politics. Donor governments are susceptible to the political agendas of their parliaments, plac- ing a focus on short term results. Sustained health development does not fit this profile. Part of the solution lies in the harmonization or pooling of funds, focused around a single country plan, that is flexible and includes funding for both recurrent and capital expenditures.

The gold standard of assessing liver fibrosis is liver biopsy, which is invasive and not without risk. Therefore, searching for noninvasive serologic biomarkers for liver fibrosis is an importantly clinical issue. Methods: A total of 16 healthy volunteers and 45 patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) were enrolled (F0: n = 16, F1: n = 7, F2: n = 17, F3: n = 8 and F4: n = 13, according to the METAVIR classification). Three serum samples of each fibrotic stage were analyzed by two-dimension difference gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE). The differential proteins were identified by...
