The methanol extracts as well as some compounds from this plant exhibited anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial activity, antioxidant, hepatoprotective and anti-cancer effect, and antiosteoporotic. On going to search for bioactive components from the Vietnamese plant, this paper reported the isolation of seven phenolic compounds including one new from the aerial parts of A. ilicifolius. The cytotoxic activity of the isolates against two cancer cell lines (HepG2 and SK-LU1) were also screened and reported herein.

The newly synthesized compounds were characterized and confirmed by analytical and spectroscopic data (IR, MS, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR). Pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines 5a–c and 9a–c and Schiff bases 11b–f were investigated for their cytotoxicity against four human cancer cell lines (colon HCT116, lung A549, breast MCF-7, and liver HepG2) according to SRB assay and the structure–activity relationship was discussed.

Marine endophytic fungi (MEF) are good sources of structurally unique and biologically active secondary metabolites. Due to the increase in antimicrobial resistance, the secondary metabolites from MEF ought to be fully explored to identify candidates which could serve as lead compounds for novel drug development.

Chemical investigation of the lichen Parmotrema praesorediosum (Nyl.) Hale led to isolate six phenolic compounds including praesorediosic (1), orcinol (2), orselinic acid (3), lecanorin (4), isolecanoric acid (5) and virensic acid (6). Among them, compound 1 appeared to be found for the first time in the nature. The structure of these compounds was elucidated by spectroscopic analyses of HRESIMS and NMR as well as the comparison of their NMR data with those in the literature.

Their structures were established by means of physical data (ESI MS, 1D and 2D NMR) and evaluated for the cytotoxic activities against liver hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2), human lung cancer (NCI-H460), human epithelial carcinoma (HeLa) and human breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines. This is the first report on phytochemical studies of this plant.

In this study, we conducted cytotoxicity assay of 7 ent-kaurane diterpenoids from Croton tonkinensis against HepG2 cancer cell line. Homology modeling was used to determine the 3D structure of mortalin and p53 crystal structure involved mortalin-binding site was selected. All studied compounds were submitted for molecular docking to investigate inhibition mechanism of bioactive compounds.

Recently reported data have suggested that only a small subset of cancer cells possess the capability to initiate malignancies. These observations were based on investigation of cells within the primary tumors displaying a distinct surface marker pattern. CD133 marker is a putative hematopoietic and neuronal stem cell marker, which is also considered to be a tumorigenic marker in brain, prostate and liver. Recent studies have shown that a small population of CD133-positive cells, indeed, exists in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines and primary HCC tissues.

Despite advances in therapeutics, outcomes for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain poor and there is an urgent need for efficacious systemic therapy. Unfortunately, drugs that are successful in preclinical studies often fail in the clinical setting, and we hypothesize that this is due to functional differences between primary tumors and commonly used preclinical models.

It is generally accepted that the energy resources of cancer cells rely on anaerobic metabolism or the glycolytic system, even if they have sufficient oxygen. This is known as the Warburg effect. The cells skillfully survive under hypoglycemic conditions when their circumstances change, which probably at least partly involves microRNA (miRNA)-mediated regulation.

Green nanomaterials have gained much attention due to their potential use as therapeutic agents. The present study investigated the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from a silver-resistant Bacillus safensis TEN12 strain, which was isolated from metal contaminated soil and taxonomically identified through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The formation of AgNPs in bacterial culture was confirmed by using UV–vis spectroscopy with an absorption peak at 426.18 nm.

Actin filament-associated protein 1 antisense RNA 1 (AFAP1-AS1), a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of protein coding gene AFAP1, has attracted attention in cancer research. Despite, its biological function and regulatory mechanism in hepatocellular carcinoma still unknown. The present study revealed AFAP1-AS1 mediated hepatocarcinoma progression through targeting CRKL. The bidirectional interaction of AFAP1-AS1 and oncogenic protein CRKL, and the deregulation of AFAP1-AS1 effects on Ras, MEK and c-Jun activities were investigated in depth.

In this study, systematic separation and subsequent pharmacological activity studies were carried out to identify cytotoxic natural products from the dried stems of Millettia pachyloba Drake. Five previously undescribed isoflavones, pachyvones A–E; one previously undescribed xanthone, pachythone A; and twenty-two known compounds were obtained. The structures of these compounds were assigned on the basis of 1D/2D NMR data and high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy analysis.

Selenoprotein P (SeP) is a plasma protein that contains up to 10 selenocysteine residues and accounts for about 50% of total selenium in human plasma. We have previously shown that SeP expression in the human liver cell line HepG2 is inhibited by transforming growth factor (TGF)-b1 on a transcriptional level. Smad proteins are the transcriptional mediators of TGF-b signalling and putative Smad-binding elements (SBE) comprising the core sequence CAGACA are present at two positions in the SeP promoter....

Hexadecylphosphocholine (HePC) is a synthetic lipid rep-resentative of a new group of antiproliferative agents, alkylphosphocholines (APC), which are promising candi-dates in anticancer therapy. Thus we have studied the action of HePC on the human hepatoblastoma cell line HepG2, which is frequently used as a model for studies into hepatic lipid metabolism.
