  • An investigation was carried out at cashew research station under AICRP on cashew Ranasinghapur, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, during the year 2015-2017, to study the variability in thirty land races of cashew. It was found that, the heritability was highest in canopy area per m2 (99.82%) and minimum was recorded in canopy spread north-south (61.54%). The genetic variability with heritability gives a reliable picture of the genetic advance to be expected for the selection.

  • Genetic parameters, variability, heritability and genetic advance were studied among 20 groundnut cultures rabi-2016-17 to study the variation and to identify traits of high heritability. The characters hundred kernel weight, hundred pod weight, dry pod yield and kernel yield had high GCV, heritability and GAM were found to be under the control of additive gene action, while the traits shelling percentage, sound mature kernel and final plant stand with moderate heritability and high genetic advance appeared to be under the predominant influence of additive gene action.

  • An investigation was carried out in the BC4F4 generation with 95 plants for studying variability, correlation and path analysis. Low PCV and GCV values were recorded for the characters namely, days to fifty percent flowering, plant height, panicle length, number of productive tillers, grain length, grain width and hundred seed weight. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percentage of mean was observed for plant height, panicle length, number of productive tillers, grain width, seeds per panicle.

  • Genetic variability, heritability and correlation at genotypic and phenotypic levels and path analysis were studied for various yield and its component characters in seventy five S6 progenies along with five checks of fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) during Rabi, 2009-10. Analysis of variance revealed significant difference for all the characters indicating the presence of good amount of variability in the S6 progenies studied.   • An investigation was carried out at ZARS, VC Farm, Mandya during 2015 to study the variability produced in two F2 populations of rice viz., ‘Rajamudi × BR-2655’ and ‘Rathnachoodi × BR-2655’ with 500 single plants to estimate the variability, heritability, genetic advance and genetic advance as percentage. The results showed that PCV values in general were higher than GCV for various characters studied. The high PCV and GCV values was obtained for grain yield per plant and low PCV and GCV was observed for thousand grain weight and panicle length.

  • The variability is the soul of any breeding programme, so, in this research an attempt was made to assess the morphological variability using thirteen characters in coriander. The values of heritability in broad sense were observed very high for total oil content followed by days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, 1000 - seed weight, seed yield per plant, umbels per plant, seeds per plant, seeds per umbel and plant height. Genetic advance as percentage of mean ranged between 0.67 % for primary branches per plant, to 78.27% for umbels per plant.
