INPRO has developed heterogeneous global model to capture countries’ different policies regarding the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle in regional and global scenarios of nuclear energy evolution and applied in a number of studies performed by participants of the project. This paper will highlight the model and major conclusions obtained in the studies.

Fly ash deposition is an important phenomenon associated with ash/slag handling and discharge in the entrained -flow coal gasification process. Fouling and slagging inside the gasifier may cause reliability and safety problems because they can impose strong negative effects on the gasifier wall in the way of heat transfer and chemical corrosion. For these reasons, this study focuses on investigating the ash deposition distribution inside of a two-stage entrained-flow gasifier.

A heterogeneous good, spatial partial-equilibrium model with perfect competition affected by non-technical and sanitary trade barriers is used to represent the global poultry sector. There are eight regions in the model: United States (US), Brazil, the EU, Japan, China, Russia, a rest-of-world poultry exporting region (ROWE), and a rest-of- world poultry importing region (ROWM).

Even if this approach provides insights about potential target country markets, no information is provided on the within-country consumers‘ heterogeneity and their response to marketing efforts. In this context it has to be stated that the globalization of consumer markets and the global acceptance of products and brands lead to a globalization of consumers‘ behaviors and attitudes.

The initial survey showed a high level of spatial heterogeneity in the location of industries in Jepara. For subsequent sampling and more detailed analysis of a subset of these enterprises, the area was divided into squares, each of which would be independently surveyed. The theoretical optimal size of the squares was calculated using the standard interpolation method, with weighted distances. Details are given in Annex 1 and the resulting grid is illustrated in Figure 2. The spatial heterogeneity is so extreme that 80% of the workshops are located in only 17% of the squares.

The natural question is whether these heterogeneous expectations co-evolve into homogeneous rational-expectations beliefs, upholding the efficient-market theory, or whether richer individual and collective behavior emerges, upholding the traders’ viewpoint and explaining the empirical market phenomena mentioned above. We answer this not analytically—our model with its fully heterogeneous expectations it is too complicated to admit of analytical solutions—but computationally.
