Heterogeneous recyclable catalyst
-
The heterogeneous recyclable catalyst, Cu-Fe hydrotalcite, was synthesized by coprecipitation, activated at 200oC and then successfully applied in Aldol reaction. This procedure also exhibited efficiency in the total synthesis of Abhexone, a flavor with high demand in the food and cosmetic industry.

The synthesized catalyst was characterized by several physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. This immobilized complex was found to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidation of different sulfides and hydrocarbons using hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2) as an oxidant. The catalyst is readily recovered by simple magnetic decantation and can be recycled several times with no considerable loss of catalytic activity.

Zinc oxide nanowires (ZnO NWs) were prepared and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy analyses. ZnO NWs were then employed as heterogeneous and recyclable catalyst for green synthesis of some new and known bispyrazole derivatives through a tandem Knoevenagel and Michael type addition reaction of aromatic aldehyde and pyrazolone. The synthetic method is operationally simple and affords product with high yields in short reaction times.

Two types of polymer-grafted silica based on polyvinylimidazole Brønsted acidic ionic liquids were prepared and used as new heterogeneous catalysts for the preparation of pharmaceutically important quinoxaline derivatives. These catalysts were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, and titration. They could be recycled without considerable loss in their catalytic activity. High efficiency of the catalysts along with short reaction times, high yields, easy purification, recyclability, and simple procedure are among the advantages of these catalytic systems.

The catalytic activity of poly(N-vinylimidazole), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic functional polymer, was investigated for the synthesis of oximes as an efficient, halogen-free, and reusable heterogeneous catalyst. The corresponding oximes were afforded in high to excellent yields at room temperature and in short times using the planetary ball mill technique.

Copper/periodic mesoporous organosilica (Cu/PMO) nanocomposites provided a highly active, reusable, globular, solid-phase catalyst for click chemistry. The reaction proceeds by mixing organohalides, sodium azide, alkyne, and the catalyst in an aqueous medium to afford the desired products. The cost efficiency and recyclability of the catalyst up to six runs without appreciable loss of activity and high yields of products make this procedure greener.

In this research, Mg-Al hydrotalcite compounds (HTs) are fabricated by constant pH at low supersaturation method. The prepared HTs act as solid base catalysts for the transformation of glucose to fructose in water medium. The activities of catalysts are monitored versus reaction temperature and time to find the optimum conditions. Under 120 oC and 20 min, the best catalyst is HT5 with maximum fructose yield of 16.3 %. The HT5 catalyst is tested for the heterogeneous nature and recyclability.
