Production and consumption of pomegranate have been increasing in the world in recent years due to its health benefits to humans. Sunburn is an important physiological disorder caused by high temperature, light, and radiation. With the changes in climatic conditions that have occurred in recent years, the effect of sunburn is increasing and limiting the production and quality of pomegranate.

The collection and analysis of fecal DNA is a common practice, especially when dealing with wildlife species that are difficult to track or capture. While fecal DNA is known to be lower quality than traditional sources of DNA, such as blood or other tissues, few investigations have verified fecal samples as a valid source of DNA by directly comparing the results to high quality DNA samples from the same individuals.

Cotton is an essential fiber producing crop in the world. It also supports additional industries by providing high quality oil and protein in the form of cottonseed cake. Currently, there is an urgent need to increase lint yield, fiber quality, and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses due to rising pressure from a global population and possible supply shortages from the effects of erratic climate changes. Classic plant breeding and transgenic strategies need more genetic breakthroughs to support the increasing pressure for fiber quantity and quality.

The Chinese Chenghua pig (CHP) is a typical Chinese domestic fatty pig breed with superior meat quality characteristics, while the Yorkshire pig (YP) has the characteristics of fast growth and a high rate of lean meat. Long term natural selection and artificial selection resulted in great phenotypic differences between the two breeds, including growth, development, production performance, meat quality, and coat color.

Recent improvements in DNA sequencing and genome scaffolding have paved the way to generate high-quality de novo assemblies of pseudomolecules representing complete chromosomes of wheat and its wild relatives. These assemblies form the basis to compare the dynamics of wheat genomes on a megabase scale.

Currently, different sequencing platforms are used to generate plant genomes and no workflow has been properly developed to optimize time, cost, and assembly quality. We present LeafGo, a complete de novo plant genome workflow, that starts from tissue and produces genomes with modest laboratory and bioinformatic resources in approximately 7 days and using one long-read sequencing technology.

The golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus rosalia) is an endangered Platyrrhine primate endemic to the Atlantic coastal forests of Brazil. Despite ongoing conservation efforts, genetic data on this species remains scarce. Complicating factors include limitations on sample collection and a lack of high-quality reference sequences. Here, we used nanopore adaptive sampling to resequence the L. rosalia mitogenome from feces, a sample which can be collected non-invasively.

The phytopatogen Claviceps paspali is the causal agent of Ergot disease in Paspalum spp., which includes highly productive forage grasses such as P. dilatatum. This disease impacts dairy and beef production by affecting seed quality and producing mycotoxins that can affect performance in feeding animals. The molecular basis of pathogenicity of C. paspali remains unknown, which makes it more difficult to find solutions for this problem. Secreted proteins are related to fungi virulence and can manipulate plant immunity acting on different subcellular localizations.

Cold hardiness is an important agronomic trait and can significantly affect grape production and quality. Until now, there are no reports focusing on cold hardiness quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping. In this study, grapevine interspecific hybridisation was carried out with the maternal parent ‘Cabernet sauvignon’ and paternal parent ‘Zuoyouhong’.

Different methods available for extraction of plant genomic DNA suffers from one or more drawbacks including compromised quality, quantity and many more. The extraction of high-quality DNA Simarouba glauca DC is notoriously troublesome due to the high contents of polysaccharides and different secondary metabolites. Herein, we aimed to develop a modified CTAB extraction method to isolate DNA from tissues containing high levels of polysaccharides.

This study presents a rapid efficient DNA extraction protocol for rice and tomato crops. Five published protocols (Doyle & Doyle CTAB Procedure, Urea Method, Salt extraction method, IRRI Method, Dellaporta DNA Extraction method) were comparatively evaluated in rice and tomato crops for DNA purity and yield. The analysis of variance revealed that the yield was significantly different (P < 0.01) for all protocols in both crops, whereas there was no significant observation was observed for purity.

Reliability and Reproducibility of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) are essential for the biological interpretation of microarray data. The microarray quality control (MAQC) project launched by US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) elucidated that the lists of DEGs generated by intra- and inter-platform comparisons can reach a high level of concordance, which mainly depended on the statistical criteria used for ranking and selecting DEGs.

Green gram is a widely cultivated pulse crop rich in protein, essential amino acids and vitamin-B. The quality and quantity of DNA are very important for amplification by PCR. Although quantity of DNA required per reaction in PCR is very low, quality is very crucial. Also, to carry out large number of PCR reactions for genotyping, a good amount of DNA is required. Presence of contaminants like phenols makes it difficult to get good quality DNA from mungbean.

New technologies for analyzing biological samples, like next generation sequencing, are producing a growing amount of data together with quality scores. Moreover, software tools (e.g., for mapping sequence reads), calculating transcription factor binding probabilities, estimating epigenetic modification enriched regions or determining single nucleotide polymorphism increase this amount of position-specific DNA-related data even further.

Protein-coding DNA sequences and their corresponding amino acid sequences are routinely used to study relationships between sequence, structure, function, and evolution. The rapidly growing size of sequence databases increases the power of such comparative analyses but it makes it more challenging to prepare high quality sequence data sets with control over redundancy, quality, completeness, formatting, and labeling.
