In ebook "Applications of MALDI-TOF spectroscopy" some topics involve the principles and the applications of ISD. Typically, MALDI is coupled with time-of-flight (TOF) analyzers with rather high resolution and a good cost performance, therefore MALDI-TOF-MS has become a nice combination in MS analysis.

In the last decade, the consumption trend of organic food has increased dramatically worldwide. However, the lack of reliable chemical markers to discriminate between organic and conventional products makes this market susceptible to food fraud in products labeled as “organic”.

Polyetherpolyols are oftenusedinformulatedsystems, buttheir complete characterizationis challenging, because of simultaneous heterogeneities in chemical composition, molecular weight and functionality. One-dimensional liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry is commonly used to characterize polyether polyols.

Mandatory disclosure of the species identity, production method, and geographical origin are embedded in the regulations and traceability systems, governing international seafood trade. A high-resolution mass spectrometry-based metabolomics approach could simultaneously authenticate the species identity and geographical origin of commercially important shrimps.

We developed a new multiplexed reversed phase liquid chromatography-high resolution tandem mass spectrometric (LC-MS/MS) method. The method is based on isobaric labeling with a tandem mass tag (TMT10-plex) and stable isotope-labeled internal standards, and was used to analyze amino acids in mouse brain microdialysis samples.

Next generation human therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (t-mAbs) are harder to quantify with the widely used bottom-up tryptic digestion method. Due to their homology with endogenous immunoglobulins, there is a lack of unique and stable ‘signature’ peptides that can be targeted. Middle-up two dimensional liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (2D-LC-HRMS), targeting the entire light chain, was examined as an alternative.

Structural elucidation of compounds detected with liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry is a challenging and time-consuming step in the workflow of non-targeted analysis and often requires manual validation of the results. Retention time, alongside exact mass, isotope pattern, fragmentation spectra, and collision cross-section, is valuable information for ruling out unlikely structures and increasing the confidence in others.

For high throughput native mass spectrometry (MS) protein characterization, it is advantageous to desalt and separate proteins by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). Sensitivity, resolution, and speed in these methods remain limited by standard SEC columns.

In this report, by a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) - high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) method, 7 molecular species of phospholipid in the polar lipid class were identified including phosphatidylinositol (PI) and phosphatidylglycerol (PG). The PI 32:0 (16:0/16:0) and PG 34:3 (16:1/18:2) molecular species have the highest content.

New derivatives of 2(3),9(10),16(17),23(24)-tetrakis-(6-methylpyridin-2-yloxy)phthalocyanine (Pc) (2b, 2c, and 2d) were synthesized and their structures were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H NMR, and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The spectral results were in line with the proposed structures. The photodegradation of Orange G (OG) dye in DMSO by the Pc derivatives was investigated. The compounds showed relatively high photodegradation rates that increased with increasing size of the central atoms.
