High risk of recurrence

Ovarian cancer (OC) is a gynecological malignancy tumor with high recurrence and mortality rates. Programmed cell death (PCD) is an essential regulator in cancer metabolism, whose functions are still unknown in OC. Therefore, it is vital to determine the prognostic value and therapy response of PCD-related genes in OC.

Phyllodes tumor (PT) is an fibroepithelial tumor with potential for local recurrence. The optimal margin for surgical resection of PT is still debated, particularly in cases of positive margins. This study aimed to identify the risk factors for phyllodes tumor recurrence and the effect of a free margin on tumor recurrence by considering these risk factors.

Although radical surgical resection is the most effective treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the high rate of postoperative recurrence remains a major challenge, especially in patients with alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-negative HCC who lack effective biomarkers for postoperative recurrence surveillance. In this study, we propose to develop a radiomics model based on preoperative CECT to predict the risk of early recurrence after surgery in AFP-negative HCC.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is classified as a soft tissue sarcoma, representing a rare form of skin cancer. Despite its rarity, DFSP is acknowledged as the most common skin sarcoma. The clinical features of DFSP are highly varied, making early-stage diagnosis challenging. Treatment initiated at an advanced stage significantly increases the risk of DFSP recurrence.

Adjuvant chemotherapy is necessary for radical resection of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) with a high risk of recurrence (T2–4, N1). However, its use in the treatment of early-stage ICC remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the role of adjuvant chemotherapy after radical resection in patients with early-stage ICC (T1N0M0).

Induction or adjuvant therapies are not always beneficial for thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients, and it is thus important to identify patients at high risk for postoperative ESCC recurrence. We investigated the usefulness of the total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) for predicting the postoperative recurrence of thoracic ESCC.

Although the prognosis of locally advanced cervical cancer has improved dramatically, survival for those with stage IIIB-IVA disease or lymph nodes metastasis remains poor. It is believed that the incorporation of intensity-modulated radiotherapy into the treatment of cervical cancer might yield an improved loco-regional control, whereas more cycles of more potent chemotherapy after the completion of concurrent chemotherapy was associated with a diminished distant metastasis.

Although determining the recurrence of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is important, currently suggested systems and single biomarkers have limited power for predicting recurrence. In this study, combinations of clinical factors and biomarkers were adapted into a nomogram to construct a powerful risk prediction model.

Distinguishing patients at a greater risk of recurrence is essential for treating locoregional advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). This study aimed to explore the potential of aldo–keto reductase 1C4 (AKR1C4) in stratifying patients at high risk of locoregional relapse.

Pathological stage IB-IIIA lung adenocarcinoma with an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation (Mt) has a high recurrence rate even after complete resection. However, there have been few reports on the risk factors for Mt recurrence. This study aimed to analyze the clinicopathological factors related to the relapsefree survival (RFS) of patients with pathological stage IB-IIIA primary lung adenocarcinoma with and without an EGFR mutation.

As clinical signs and symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) are often nonspecific, it is difficult to detect in the early stage, leading to high risk of relapse or recurrent metastasis. Plasma cell-free DNA of Epstein-Barr virus (cf-EBV DNA) is markedly associated with the development of undifferentiated NPC, and its level prior and subsequent to treatment is reliable for the screening, diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of NPC.

Distant metastasis remains the main cause of death in breast cancer. Breast cancer risk is strongly influenced by pathogenic mutation. This study was designed to develop a multiple-feature model using clinicopathological and imaging characteristics adding pathogenic mutations associated signs to predict recurrence or metastasis in breast cancers in high familial risk women.

Radiotherapy is one of the cornerstones of the treatment of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas (HNSCC). However, radioresistance is associated with a high risk of recurrence. To propose strategies (such as combinations with drugs) that could over intrinsic radioresistance, it is crucial to predict the response to treatment.

Recurrences are the main reasons for unfavorable outcomes for patients with stage II colorectal cancer (CRC). To obtain a clear understanding of the high-risk factors, further investigation is warranted. The present study aimed to analyze the risk factors associated with postoperative recurrence in patients with stage II CRC.

Urothelial bladder cancer is most frequently diagnosed at the non-muscle-invasive stage (NMIBC). However, recurrences and interventions for intermediate and high-risk NMIBC patients impact the quality of life. Bio‑ markers for patient stratification could help to avoid unnecessary interventions whilst indicating aggressive measures when required.

Neuroblastoma (NB) is a childhood malignant tumor,50% of high-risk NB children still have recurrence, and the long-term survival rate is very low. NB tumors expressing high levels of BDNF/TrkB are associated with poor survival outcomes. In this study, we show that the trends of serum concentration of BDNF at different growth stages after birth, and explore the relationship with NB replase.

Patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) are generally younger and more likely to experience disease recurrence and have the shortest survival among all breast cancer patients. Recently, neoadjuvant delivery of the programmed cell death protein-1 inhibitor pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy followed by adjuvant pembrolizumab was approved for patients with high-risk, early-stage TNBC, but this treatment regimen has not been evaluated in head-to-head trials with other neoadjuvant treatment regimens.
