Prior studies demonstrate associations between risk factors for obesity and related chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease) and features of the built environment. This is particularly true for rural populations, who have higher rates of obesity, cancer, and other chronic diseases than urban residents.

Order Diptera is the most important group of animals when it comes to insect immunity research. The largest share of experimental data in the group falls on the genus Drosophila - a model species with a number of advantages. Other crucial representatives are those of the mosquito group, as they are vectors of a number of infectious diseases infecting higher vertebrates and humans. As representatives of the genera, Anopheles, Aedes and Culex are very significant model organisms. In total, more than 40 dipteran species are being actively studied as models in various aspects related to immunity.

The inherent risk of developing tuberculosis (TB) in HIV- infected individuals is further enhanced by hypovitaminosis D. Interventions that offset HIV-associated immune deterioration potentially arrest disease progression and incidence of opportunistic infections including TB. Despite conflicting reports on association between vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and risk of TB, vitamin D (VD) supplementation remains a promising intervention.

Agriculture and climate change are inextricable. Crop yield, biodiversity, water use, and soil health are directly affected by the impact of climate change. Tropical countries are likely to be more affected compared to temperate countries. The brunt of environmental changes in India is very high due to higher dependence on agriculture. Such a study would contribute towards a better understanding of the intensity and impacts of the climate change. The research study was conducted in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha taking 120 respondents from Tirtol and Raghunathpur block.

The present study was conducted on thirty cattle suffering from small bowel intussusception presented at the institutional veterinary hospital. The animals were divided into three equal groups depending upon the duration of intussusception since the first signs of colic appear viz. Group I (n=10) (since 48 hours), Group II (n=10) (>48 hours to 120 hours and Group III (n=10) (120 hours to 192 hours). The data from these animals was compared with the values obtained from the 6 healthy animals (control group) from the organised farm.

Common bacterial blight is one of the most important diseases in bean crop. Currently, the use of beneficial microorganisms to protect agricultural crops is booming, however, the control efficiency achieved with its application is even lower than conventional methods, which suggests more studies to understand the site and mechanism of protection.

The filamentous fungus Paecilomyces is currently being developed as a biocontrol agent against plant parasitic nematodes, which often cause black leaf disease in pepper and coffee trees. Nematode eggs and cuticles are the infection sites for biocontrol agents that penetrate those areas by the production of lytic enzymes. Paecilomyces variotii NV01 was isolated from pepper soil from the Dak Lak province. The purpose of this work is to study the activity of protease and chitinase in the strain Paecilomyces variotii NV01. The protease activity was determined to be 82.3 U/ml in a 0.

Inflammation and oxidative stress are two faces of one coin in end stage renal disease patients (ESRD) on maintenance hemodialysis. Their interconnection induces anemia complicated with erythropoietin hyporesponsiveness. The biochemical bases behind the resistance to erythropoietin therapy with frequent hemoglobinemia, oxidative stress and iron status have not been fully understood. Here two equal groups (40 patients each) of responders and non-responders to recombinant human erythropoietin therapy (higher than 300 IU/kg/wk of epoetin) were inves-tigated.
