  • An investigation was carried out at cashew research station under AICRP on cashew Ranasinghapur, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, during the year 2015-2017, to study the variability in thirty land races of cashew. It was found that, the heritability was highest in canopy area per m2 (99.82%) and minimum was recorded in canopy spread north-south (61.54%). The genetic variability with heritability gives a reliable picture of the genetic advance to be expected for the selection.

  • An investigation was carried out for evaluating the table grape genotypes against incidence of mites in Sector No. 70, UHS, Bagalkot, Karnataka after fore pruning (October) 2016 at different phenological stages. Results revealed that among 12 grape genotypes studied, significantly lowest mites population was recorded in Red Globe (T12) (8.63 mites/sq. inch of leaf) after 115 DAP. Significantly the highest population of mites was recorded in Fantasy Seedless (T10) (14.48 mites/sq. inch of leaf) after 115 DAP. Correlation studies revealed that the incidence of mites per sq.

  • In the present study endophytic bacteria were isolated from Aegle marmelos and were screened for phosphate solubilizing activity. The isolate AP01 showed the ability to solubilize inorganic tricalcium phosphate and thus was characterized. Phenotypic, biochemical and genotypic analysis revealed, the isolate to be Kosakonia cowanii, a gram –ve proteobacterium of family enterobacteriaceae with accession no. MK834804, of the three media viz.

  • The present investigation was conducted during rabi season 2015-16 at agriculture research block, faculty of agriculture – Rajula, MGCGVV University, Chitrkoot, satna, M.P, India. The experiment was carried out with the performance of fifteen varieties of Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) to study growth and flowering characters under Agro climatic condition of Chitrkoot. The character Yield of spike (No.) plant-1 exhibited a wide range of variation 2.47 to 1.07.with a grand mean of 1.67. The highest Yield of spike (No.) plant-1 of genotype salvia (2.

  • The present experiment was formulated on vegetable research farm, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour to study the per se performance of 21 hybrids with seven dissimilar parents. The ANOVA for experimental design expressed that the treatment variance were highly significant for all the quantitative and qualitative traits. Fruit yield is the ultimate character which shows the utility of a genotype in farmer’s field. As per the present findings, the parents Pusa Ausadhi, followed by BRBT Local and Kathi No.1 were the most promising parental line.

  • A study was conducted with nine gladiolus genotypes namely Arka Aayush, Arka Amar, Arka Darshan, Arka Gold, Arka Kumkum, Pink Friendship, IIHRG-12, Gladiolus callianthus and Psittacinus hybrid for resistance against two geographically different isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. gladioli (FOG) i.e. FGS-SOL isolate and FOG IIHR-1 isolate. Pink Friendship recorded highest disease incidence (91.67 %) which was inoculated by FOG IIHR-1 isolate whereas no disease incidence was observed in inoculated plants of Psittacinus hybrid.

  • Twenty four tomato genotypes were evaluated during June to September 2018 at Horticulture College and Research Institute, Periyakulam with an aid to estimate genetic diversity for 15 quantitative and qualitative characters. Using Mahalanobis D2 statistics method, the 24 genotypes were grouped into three clusters, indicating the presence of diversity among the genotypes for different traits. The cluster III containing 17 genotypes followed by cluster II and I comprises of four and three genotypes respectively (Table 5). The highest intra-cluster distance was recorded in cluster III (60.

  • The study was undertaken to assess the genetic diversity among 110 sorghum genotypes using D2 statistics. 4 clusters were formed, highest no of genotypes are in cluster –I with 91, followed by cluster –II with 12, next by cluster-IV with 6 genotypes and cluster-III having solitary genotypes. The highest inter cluster distance was observed between cluster II & IV (4018.74), Cluster II and III (2968.78), I and II (1050.81), I and IV (1332.68) and lowest between cluster III and IV (235.21).

  • A pot culture experiment was conducted at ICAR-IISWC, Ballari, Karnataka during 2016 to screen seven paddy genotypes receiving zinc fertilization for their zinc use efficiency under various moisture regimes. The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design with two replications. At 30 days after transplanting (DAT), the plant height in M2 treatment (Saturated Soil Culture) was higher which was at par with the continuous flooding (M1) and was significantly different with the Alternate Wetting and Drying (M3). The genotype NLR 34449 produced significantly taller plants (23.

  • Edamame (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) also called vegetable soybean is an import vegetable and well recognized for health and nutritional benefits in the world. Soybean cultivars with large seed size and high sucrose content are desirable in the production of vegetable soybean, which is the food bean harvested at R6 stage and just before turning to yellow colour. However, the farmers in the state cultivating regular soybean for the past two decades but there is no suitable or improved vegetable soybean cultivars in the state of Telangana, India.

  • Rice as a cereal grain is the most widely consumed staple food for a large part of world’s human population, especially in Asia. Estimation correlation among different characters was undertaken by taking into consideration 8 CMS line and their maintainer lines. At genotypic level, grain yield per plant showed highly significant and positive correlation with date of panicle initiation, 50% panicle emergence, 100% panicle emergence, panicle per plant, no. of tillers and days of maturity and negatively correlated with pollen sterility.

  • Five faba bean genotypes (Vicia faba L.) were selfed for two cycles to produce S1 and S2 generations. A half-diallel cross was carried out among them in each level of inbreeding (S0, S1 and S2) to obtain 10 F1 hybrids. Parental materials as well as their respective F1s were evaluated during the winter season of 2012. All studied traits except total dry seed yield showed significant inbreeding depression after the first generation of selfing (S1). No further decrease was noticed at the S2 generation. In the S1 generation the degree of inbreeding depression was highest for No.

  • Does this mean that differences in genetic diversity levels will have predictable ecological consequences? The answer is no, because only one portion of genetic diversity is connected to ecological factors, i.e. adaptation. Ecological adaptation is a significant factor for example, in range expansion of plant species. Plants with different genotypes conferring the highest levels of fitness are expected to survive and reproduce better, shifting the gene pool over time towards higher frequencies of the alleles making up the more successful genotypes (Ward et al., 2008).
