In ebook "Applications of mass spectrometry in life safety" The potential of MS for high-sensitive structural a- lyses became unsurpassable after the introduction of electrospray (ESI) and matrix assisted laser/desorption ionization (MALDI) methods, on one hand, and the pos- bility to deduce in detail unknown biopolymer structures by highly accurate mo- cular mass measurement followed by sequencing using dissociation techniques based on multiple stage MS, on the other.

Thyroid swellings are prevalent in the Indian population and are seen in about 4-7% of them. They are common in women and their incidence increases with age, exposure to radiation and intake of goitrogens. These swellings cause cosmetic deformity and also produce pressure symptoms due to their location and size. They are viewed with suspicion as the incidence of cancer is high. FNAC of thyroid is a sensitive, easy, cost effective, and a reliable screening test for evaluating these lesions.

Mechanical ventilation is a life-saving procedure, but it is associated with a high risk of acquiring respiratory infections. Hence to prevent it and initiate empirical antimicrobial therapy, knowledge of microbial profile and their local antimicrobial sensitivity pattern are essential. A prospective analytical study of Endotracheal tube (ETT) aspirates of mechanically ventilated patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was done over a period of six months (Dec2015-May2016).

Starches from the wheat (UP262, PBW343), rice (PB2, PD19) and millets (Finger millet VL Mandua-352, Barnyard millet VL Madira-207, Foxtail millet DHFT-109-3) were isolated by alkali extraction method and characterized for morphologically and biochemical properties. The morphological properties of starch granules were studied by scanning electron microscope. The infrared spectroscopy is sensitive to structural changes on starch macromolecule, such as helicoidal chain conformation, crystallinity, retrogradation and water content.

This study conducted in D Y Patil Hospital, Nerul, Navi Mumbai shows high prevalence of ESBL production among Gram negative bacteria. E.coli showed highest prevalence i.e. 45.5%. Colistin showed 100% sensitivity followed by Imipenem which showed 98.2%. Prevalence of ESBL producers was more prevalent in urine sample among males than females. Timely administration of sensitive antibiotic and avoiding antibiotic abuse will help to lessen the burden of ESBL.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa are associated with large number of identified infections. Rise in multidrug resistance among clinical isolates. A total of 342 specimens were collected from swabs (pus, blood, burn, exudate, tip and scalp specimen) and obtained during 12 months (January 2017- December 2017). The Majority of P. aeruginosa were isolated from swab specimens accounted217 (99%). The male to female were 241 (70%) to 101 (30%) respectively. P.

Respiratory tract infections are very common in critically ill patients in hospital settings. Endotracheal aspiration is a simple and easy method to perform especially in ICU patients for obtaining samples from lower respiratory tract. Therefore, this study was carried out to determine the microbiological spectrum and antibiotic susceptibility profile of Endotracheal aspirates among patients admitted in our institute. The present study was conducted on 348 ETT aspirate samples received in the Department of Microbiology, GMC, Jammu for a period of 1 year i.e. April 2017- 2018.

Clinical studies on ear infections, microbiological evaluation and therapeutic management in canines
A total 116 dogs were presented with various affections of the ear, among them 67 (57.76%) cases were having the symptoms of otitis. The higher incidence was found in the age groups of 1-5 year (44.77%, n=30) followed other age groups. The breed wise incidence of was found to be highest in the Labrador (35.82%, n=24) followed by other breeds. 35 cases had bilateral (52.23%), 21 dogs had only right side ear (31.34%) involvement and 11 dogs had left side ear (16.41%) infection. Out of total 67 cases 58.20 percent (n=39) cases were male and 41.80% percent (n=28) cases were female.

Ear infections usually results from bacterial, fungal, viral infections. Ear infections are major health problem and occur with a high incidence and prevalence in both developed and developing countries which leads to deafness and intra-cranial complications. It may be acute, chronic or recurrent. It can be suppurative or non-suppurative. The Aim of study is to determine Bacterial and Mycological profile and their antimicrobial sensitivity pattern of Ear Infections. Total 95 patients of Ear Infections are included in this study.

Urinary tract infections (UTI) are the second most common infections encountered in clinical practice and is associated with a high rate of morbidity and economic burden. Knowledge of the local antibiotic resistance patterns will help in providing empirical therapy and helps in prevention of resistance. This was a retrospective study conducted from January 2017 to December 2018 at a medical college in South India. Samples received included mid-stream clean catch urine, Catheterized urine, suprapubic aspirate.

The diagnosis of neonatal sepsis is difficult because clinical manifestation is non-specific. Timely detection and treatment will help in decreasing mortality and morbidity. Blood culture is gold standard but the diagnosis is often retrospective. Thus there is a need for an alternative method which is more rapid, reliable and sensitive. This study was designed to determine the sensitivity, specificity, NPV, PPV and accuracy of hs-CRP, IL-6 and PCT levels, as a diagnostic marker of EONS. 206 neonates with sign and symptoms of sepsis admitted in NICU were included in this study.

Historically, S. aureus has been one of the most common pathogens which caused pyogenic local and systemic infections in both hospitals and community. Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus is associated with multidrug resistance, an aggressive course, increased mortality and morbidity in both community and health care facilities. This cross sectional study was carried out in a 70 burn patients from May 2016 to July 2018 at DR.S.C.G.M.C, Nanded India. Swabs were taken and cultured for bacterial isolation and identification following standard operative procedures.

The aim of this study was to assess the predictive values of AFC, AMH and FSH in predicting high ovarian response during in - vitro fertilization (IVF). We recruited 600 IVF patients who were receiving GnRH antagonist therapy and recombinant FSH for ovarian stimulation. High ovarian response during IVF was defined as > 15 oocytes retrieved. AMH, FSH and AFC levels were assessed on cycle day 2. We found that the AMH threshold value for high ovarian response was 4.04 ng/ml with a sensitivity of 73% and a specificity of 61%. The AFC threshold value for high ovarian response was 10.
