  • The present paper was conducted to study the desiccation effect of poly ethylene glycol (PEG) in relation to embryo maturation, and germination. Abnormal malformed embryo explants were cultured on germination medium supplemented with different concentrations of PEG (15, 20 and 25 g l1 ) for two periods (15, 30 days) as desiccation treatments.

  • Previous research has described a neuroprotective effect of IGF-I, supporting neuronal survival, axon growth and proliferation of muscle cells. Therefore, the association between IGF-I concentration, muscle histology and electrophysiological markers in a cohort of patients with sarcopenia dares investigation.

  • Magnesium (Mg) released from Mg-based implants degradation is believed to be effective in improving osteogenesis, however, studies focusing on Mg-based interbody cages are limited and fusion success was never reported.

  • Female patients are more likely to have tendon injuries than males, especially those who has a higher concentration of relaxin. Previous studies have demonstrated that relaxin attenuates extracellular matrix (ECM) formation. However, the mechanism of relaxin on tendon repair remains unclear. We hypothesize that relaxin inhibits tendon healing by disrupting collagen synthesis.

  • The present study aimed to assess the acute toxicity effects of herbicide, glyphosate on Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The bioassay experiments were performed in a static renewal regime with Oreochromis niloticus exposing to varying acute toxicity concentrations of glyphosate viz., 15.33, 30.67, 61.34, 122.68 and 245.36 mg/l for 96 hrs and the gill, liver and kidney tissues were dissected out. The standard histology protocol was followed to study the histological alterations. In the present study, 100 % mortality was observed in concentrations of 122.68 and 245.

  • The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of oxytetracycline (OTC)- dosing at five different concentrations, viz., 0 mg (0X), 80 mg (1X), 240 mg (3X), 400 mg (5X) and 800 mg (10X) kg-1 biomass day-1 for 30 consecutive days on the growth, safety and intestinal histology of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.) juveniles. The OTC-residues in the edible muscle were detected at scheduled intervals by LCMS/MS. A dose-dependent decline in feed intake, biomass and survival were recorded in OTC-dosed fish. The OTC-residue levels were 0, 204.75±45.75, 318.00±0.00, 778.50±145.

  • Dithiocarbamate propineb is an organometal fungicide, which is widely used for the control of diseases in plants. Female Wistar rats were exposed orally to propineb concentrations of 200 and 400 ppm, from the 6th day of gestation up to birth. At 400 ppm, propineb showed a variety of macroscopic (e.g. ptosis and paralysis) and microscopic symptoms in the organs of both fetuses and female rats.

  • Fluorosis is the result of an excessive intake of fluoride during enamel formation and calcification, usually the third month of gestation through the eighth year after birth. When high concentrations of fluoride are absorbed by the body, the metabolic function of the ameloblasts is altered, which leads to defective matrix formation and hypocalcification (Figure 7-2). This type of discoloration can affect the primary and the permanent dentition. Histologically, a hypomineralized porous subsurface, covered by a well-mineralized surface enamel layer, is observed.

  • Tumor Markers Careful monitoring of the serum tumor markers AFP and hCG is essential in the management of patients with GCT, as these markers are important for diagnosis, as prognostic indicators, in monitoring treatment response, and in the detection of early relapse. Approximately 70% of patients presenting with disseminated nonseminomatous GCT have increased serum concentrations of AFP and/or hCG. While hCG concentrations may be increased in patients with either nonseminoma or seminoma histology, the AFP concentration is increased only in patients with nonseminoma.
