History of dehydration

A two and a half year old male Labrador dog was brought with history of in appetence, pyrexia, weakness, vomiting, blood in urine and lateral recumbencysince a week. A three month old Sirohi breed of kid was presented with history of gradual off feed maintained in an organized farm. On clinical examination of kid revealed dehydration, dullness, anemic and the condition is deteriorated and suffering with respiratory distress leading to death of kid. On postmortem examination of kid reveled that, there was one hard ball, in the rumen. The hairballs occupied most of the rumen leaving little space for food and therefore, it was considered to be the cause of the in-appetence.

A five year old unspayed female Labrador dog weighing 28 kilogram was presented in Veterinary Clinical Complex, LUVAS, Hisar with a history of dehydration, uterine discharge, distended abdomen, vomition, anorexia, Anuria, inability to walk and pyrexia. On clinical examination, the rectal temperature was recorded as 104.30 F, with swollen vulva and pus discharge. This report describes the pathomorphological findings in a Labrador dog which was presented for necropsy with a history of dullness, dehydration, severe haemorrhagic enteritis, vomition and was treated privately. Post mortem examination revealed intussusception in the jejunal region while stomach was impacted with bits and pieces of foreign body consisting of comb, malleable plastic material, ropes and hair. Intestines revealed patchy haemorrhagic areas and tear in the mucosa with intact serosa and patchy haemorrhages.

A pure bred imported Holstein Friesian bull aged 4.5 years was brought for necropsy with a history of treatment for suspected anaplasmosis. Gross examination revealed a dehydrated carcass with pale mucous membranes. Pericardial sac contained about 75 mL of serosanguineous fluid. Myocardial and subendocardialecchymotic haemorrhages were seen in the heart.

c A one year old intact male Dobermann dog was brought to Small Animal Surgery Out Patient ward unit at Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital with the history of acute vomition and diarrhoea for the past four days. Two dogs of 2 and 3 month old were presented with history of lethargy, vomition and foul smelling diarrhea. The dogs were febrile, dehydrated, mucous membrane were pale and pinkish. The present study was conducted on 30 cattle presented at the institutional veterinary hospital which were diagnosed of suffering for the small bowel intussusception. Detailed signalment including age, sex, breed, pregnancy status and season were recorded in all the animals.
