  • This study was done to know the seroprevalence of Human Immunodeficiency virus in Pregnant women in a tertiary care hospital, Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences& P.G Research Centre, Hyderabad from July 2007 to December 2015. First an ELISA test was conducted and after it is positive it is confirmed using two other tests. The study included 5781 patients, who were screened for HIV.

  • Plasmid induces the production of extra-cellular enzymes called β-lactamases, and also, encoded resistance genes which are often located within genetic elements. This study evaluated the plasmid profile of bacterial isolates cultured from urine samples of HIV seropositive pregnant women that attended antenatal clinic of the Ondo State Specialist hospital, Akure. Plasmid analysis of bacterial isolates was also done by alkaline method. The resistance gene (plasmid) was detected in E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates used.

  • Access to skilled birth attendance is one measure of inequity in maternal health. Differences in socioeconomic aspects account for about two-thirds (61%) of inequalities in skilled birth attendance, of which household wealth accounts for 24%, mother’s education 16% and living in rural areas 12%. 12 When examining the relationship between utilization patterns and offer of skilled care during delivery, women who did not receive valid antenatal care (at least four visits to a health professional during pregnancy) were more likely to deliver without professional care.
