Homogeneous layer

This study proposes a constitutive mechanical law to model the behavior of the interface between a microcracked viscoelastic medium and an undamaged elastic body based on the homogenization method. The interface is modeled by a layer of zero thickness. The coupling between the homogenization technique and the Griffith’s theory is used to provide the effective behavior of the micro-cracked medium.

The paper presents the characteristics of the ISO-4037 narrow spectrum X-ray reference fields in 02 different manners: simulation using the SpekPy and measurement using a calibrated ionization chamber. The physical (air Kerma rate) and radiation (X-ray fluence-spectrumaveraged energy, the first and the second half value layers, as well as the beam homogeneity coefficient) quantities were simulated using the SpekPy web-based simulation toolkit.

The parameters of the ISO-4037 wide spectrum (W-series) X-ray reference fields were simulated using the SpekPy web-based simulation software. One of the most important physical quantities (air Kerma rate) and other radiation quantities (X-ray fluence spectrum and its averaged energy, the first and the second half value layers, as well as the beam homogeneity coefficient) were also deduced.

In this paper, a new design of cylindrical panels is proposed with two functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) face sheets and a corrugated core. The corrugated core layer is modelled by applying the homogeneous technique according to the firstorder shear deformation theory (FSDT). The nonlinear vibration behaviour of first-order shear deformable cylindrical panels with geometric nonlinearities is analysed in the present paper.

In the paper "Nonlinear static analysis of bidirectional functionally graded sandwich plates using a higher-order finite element formulation" the nonlinear static behaviors of bidirectional functionally graded sandwich (BFGSW) plates are investigated using a finite element procedure. The plates consist of three layers, a homogeneous core and two bidirectional functionally graded face sheets. A nonlinear finite element formulation in sense of the von Karman nonlinear strain-displacement relation is derived in the basis of a higher-order shear deformation theory.

The Payas region bauxite deposits occur as a sandwiched layer that is a few kilometers long and an average of 10 m thick between the lower and upper Cretaceous carbonates of the Arabian Platform. The bauxites occur as 2 types, comprising blanket and pocket, are chemically and texturally homogeneous, and have a thrust structure with ophiolitic mélange formations. The bauxite varies in color, from reddish-brown to grayish-green to black, and has a massive, patchy, and very rare oolitic-pisolitic texture.

High density polyethylene (HDPE) was compounded with thermally exfoliated graphene oxide (TEGO) by thermokinetic mixing in a short time. High shear rates during the compounding process provided high exfoliation and proper dispersion of graphene layers in the polymer matrix. Different TEGO/polymer ratios were used to get efficient melt mixing. Structural analysis by spectroscopic techniques confirmed the exfoliation of TEGO sheets and the coverage of their surfaces by HDPE chains.

This paper deals with the reflection and transmission of P-waves at a very rough interface between two isotropic elastic solids. The interface is assumed to oscillate between two straight lines. By mean of homogenization, this problem is reduced to the reflection and transmission of P-waves through an inhomogeneous orthotropic elastic layer.

Wool has disulphide bonds containing-hydrophobic external keratin layers, which act as a barrier for the modification through coating with hydrophilic materials. For that reason, in this work, to ensure a dense and homogenous conductive polymer coating onto the wool, the fabrics were subjected to the reduction process in the aqueous alkaline medium containing agents that can attack these disulphide bonds. Then, one of the polyaniline derivatives, poly(mtoluidine) (PMT), was coated onto wool by in situ polymerization of m-toluidine sulphate using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant.

The results showed that Pt particles, deposited by dc-magnetron gun, surround the large Co-clusters deposited by rf-magnetron gun. In addition, the increase of Co content led to an increase in the electrochemical active surface area (EASA) from 23.75 m2 /gPt to 47.54 m2 /gPt for pure Pt and Pt:Co (1:3), respectively, which corresponded the improvement of the utilization of Pt by a factor of 1.91.

In this paper, a two-dimensional functionally graded sandwich (2D-FGSW) beam model formed from three constituent materials is proposed and its free vibration analysis is carried out for the first time. The beam consists of three layers, a homogeneous core and two skin layers of 2D-FGM. The material properties of the skin layers are considered to vary in both the thickness and longitudinal directions by power gradation laws.

In the present work, the large displacement behaviour of FGSW beams in thermal environment is studied by a finite element formulation. The beams considered herein consist of three layers, a homogeneous core and two FGM skin layers. The material properties are assumed to be temperature dependent, and they are graded in the thickness direction by a power gradation law. Based on Antman beam model, a nonlinear beam element using linear interpolation is formulated in the context of the total Lagrange formulation.

An analytical investigation on the buckling and postbuckling behavior of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) sandwich cylindrical panels exposed to thermal environments and subjected to uniform axial compression is presented in this paper. Beside sandwich model with CNTRC face sheets in the literature, the present work suggests a sandwich model with CNTRC core layer and homogeneous face sheets. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are reinforced into matrix phase through uniform or functionally graded distributions.

The comparative analysis was conducted for the two models of minor actinide loading in the LEU fuel assembly: homogeneous mixing in the UGD (Uranium-Gadolinium) pins and coating a thin layer to the UGD pins. The parameters to be analysed and compared include the reactivity of the LEU fuel assembly versus burnup and the transmutation of minor actinide nuclides when loading different minor actinide vectors into the LEU fuel assembly.

In order to better evaluate the applicability of the inverse analysis method for calculation and evaluation of hydraulic properties of unsaturated soil in more realistic conditions, a transient one – step outflow experiment for layered sands was applied in the desaturation process with the purpose to attain the profiles of suction, saturation and flow rate with time. In this study, the fine sand and medium sand were used with the same thickness of 40cm for each layer.
