  • TiO2 has strong photocatalytic activity, which can oxidize and decompose impurities on surfaces and in the air. Therefore, TiO2 is used as an additive in the self-cleaning coating and paint industries. In this work, SiO2 is used in the TiO2/SiO2 mixture as the nucleus to homogenize the dispersion components. TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles are synthesized by the sol-gel method combined with ultrasound that suits the size range of 10-30 nm.

  • This work reports the surface modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers by graft copolymerization to ensure the decoration of homogenous and dense Ag nanoparticles. Two facile and subsequent modification processes resulted in a PAN fiber composite with an intact fibrous structure, sufficiently conductive for antistatic application and antibacterial activity. In the first step, some chemically attractive monomers and monomer mixtures, such as acrylic acid (AA), AA-itaconic acid (AA-IA), AA-acrylamide (AA-AAm), were introduced to the fiber surface by grafting.

  • High density polyethylene (HDPE) was compounded with thermally exfoliated graphene oxide (TEGO) by thermokinetic mixing in a short time. High shear rates during the compounding process provided high exfoliation and proper dispersion of graphene layers in the polymer matrix. Different TEGO/polymer ratios were used to get efficient melt mixing. Structural analysis by spectroscopic techniques confirmed the exfoliation of TEGO sheets and the coverage of their surfaces by HDPE chains.

  • A novel adsorbent Fe3O4/Ni/NixB nanocomposite was synthesized and used for the adsorption of copper. Moreover, natural adsorbents carob and grape seeds were used for this purpose. The surfaces and the elemental compositions of the adsorbents were characterized by SEM-EDX. The zero point charges of pH of Fe3O4/Ni/NixB nanocomposite, carob, and grape seeds were found as 8.4, 6.0, and 5.6, respectively. The Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models were used for the identification of the mechanism of the adsorption.

  • In the present study copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) were synthesized using a hydrothermal method with ranolazine as a shape-directing agent. Ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs were characterized by various analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The SEM pattern confirmed the morphology of ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs with well-defined rice-like structures. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the interaction between CuO NPs and ranolazine.

  • Wool has disulphide bonds containing-hydrophobic external keratin layers, which act as a barrier for the modification through coating with hydrophilic materials. For that reason, in this work, to ensure a dense and homogenous conductive polymer coating onto the wool, the fabrics were subjected to the reduction process in the aqueous alkaline medium containing agents that can attack these disulphide bonds. Then, one of the polyaniline derivatives, poly(mtoluidine) (PMT), was coated onto wool by in situ polymerization of m-toluidine sulphate using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant.

  • This study aimed to propose a mathematical method to investigate and optimize the simultaneous elimination process of multiple organic pollutants using the Fenton process. Hence, the treatment of rhodamine B (RB) and acid red 14 (AR14) dyes in their binary solution was studied. Multivariate curve resolution alternating least square (MCR-ALS), a novel chemometric method, was applied along with correlation constraints to resolute the UV-Vis spectrophotometric data, enabling quantification of investigated dyes despite a high spectral overlapping.

  • The results showed that Pt particles, deposited by dc-magnetron gun, surround the large Co-clusters deposited by rf-magnetron gun. In addition, the increase of Co content led to an increase in the electrochemical active surface area (EASA) from 23.75 m2 /gPt to 47.54 m2 /gPt for pure Pt and Pt:Co (1:3), respectively, which corresponded the improvement of the utilization of Pt by a factor of 1.91.

  • n this paper, we carry out the homogenization of a very rough threedimensional interface separating two dissimilar generally anisotropic poroelastic solids modeled by the Biot theory. The very rough interface is assumed to be a cylindrical surface that rapidly oscillates between two parallel planes, and the motion is time-harmonic. Using the homogenization method with the matrix formulation of the poroelasicity theory, the explicit homogenized equations have been derived.

  • This paper investigate the zero and finite temperature transport properties of a quasi-twodimensional electron gas in a GaAs/InGaAs/GaAs quantum well under a magnetic field, taking into account many-body effects via a local-field correction. We consider the surface roughness, roughness-induced piezoelectric, remote charged impurity and homogenous background charged impurity scattering. The effects of the quantum well width, carrier density, temperature and localfield correction on resistance ratio are investigated.
