The present study was conducted to compare the efficacy of hormonal and nutritional approaches to induce fertile estrus in canine. Twenty female dogs of different breeds presented to university clinics, GADVASU, Ludhiana were subjected to hormonal (Group 1, n=10) and nutritional (Group 2; n=10) treatments. The breeds of these dogs were Labrador, Dalmatian and German Shephard weighing between 25-30 kg with the history of not showing estrus despite attaining age of puberty (≥ 1.5 years of age).

Estrogen therapy: Using estrogen to treat symptoms of change of life is known as estrogen therapy or menopausal hormone therapy. Estrogen treatment can reduce hot flashes, improve vaginal dryness, and help prevent the weakening of the bones (osteoporosis) that can happen with menopause. But the use of estrogen by itself increases a woman's risk of getting endometrial cancer in women who still have a uterus. Estrogen therapy also increases a woman's chance of developing serious blood clots and heart disease.

The rationale for the guideline is that whilst growth is documented in a proportion of those receiving renal replacement therapy (published in the UK Renal Registry report) there is scope for improving identification of growth failure in children at an earlier stage. Identification and treatment of nutritional deficiencies and metabolic abnormalities should be aggressively pursued with respect to linear growth.
