Hormonal treatment

The ESR1 gene encodes Estrogen Receptor alpha (ERα), which plays a role in the tumourigenesis of breast cancer. A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in intron 1 of this gene called ESR1 PvuII (rs2234693) has been reported to increase the risk of breast cancer. This study aimed to investigate the ESR1 PvuII polymorphism as a prognostic and predictive factor guiding the choice of therapy for advanced breast cancer.

The study was carried out during 2013-14 in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh state to focus on the sugarcane growers regarding impact of knowledge on adoption level of IPM practices. The 80 contact farmers were selected as respondents. The study revealed that the maximum knowledge gap was found to be existing in previous crop residues, crop rotation, hand picking of the insect and their destruction, hot air and water treatment, light and pheromone trap, microbial control, use of natural enemies, resistant varieties, biopesticides/ bio-agents, application and dose of different pest etc.

Fecal steroid assays have been used to provide information on the estrous cycle, pregnancy, re-estrus, reproductive season and therapeutic treatments of an expanded list of species. This same method could be used in monitoring the reproductive status of the common palm civets (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus), also called toddy cats, a nocturnal omnivorous mammal found in South east Asia in general and Vietnam in particular.

A histone heterodimer, designated as p28, which contains an N e (c-glutamyl)lysine cross-link between Gln9 of histone H2B and Lys5 or Lys12 of histone H4, is present in starfish (Asterina pectinifera) sperm. Treatment of spermnuclei with micrococcal nuclease produced soluble chromatin, which was size-fractionated by sucrose-gradient centrifugation to give p28-containing oligonucleosome and p28-free mono-nucleosome fractions, indicating that the cross-link is inter-nucleosomal.

Ectopic hormone production would only be an epiphenomenon associated with cancer if it did not result in clinical manifestations. Excessive and unregulated production of hormones such as ACTH, PTHrP, or vasopressin can lead to substantial morbidity and can complicate the cancer treatment plan. Moreover, the paraneoplastic endocrinopathies are sometimes the presenting feature of underlying malignancy and may prompt the search for an unrecognized tumor.

Metastatic Disease: Castrate Castration-resistant disease can manifest in many ways. For some it is a rise in PSA with no change in radiographs and no new symptoms. In others it is a rising PSA and progression in bone with or without symptoms of disease. Still others will show soft tissue disease with or without osseous metastases, and others have visceral spread. The prognosis, which is highly variable, can be predicted using nomograms designed for the castration-resistant disease state.

Diethylstilbestrol (DES) acting as an estrogen at the level of the hypothalamus to downregulate hypothalamic luteinizing hormone (LH) production results in decreased elaboration of testosterone by the testicle.
