To evaluate the mortality prognostic value of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) at admission in patients with polytrauma. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive study on 196 polytrauma patients diagnosed using the criterion of the Berlin Consensus 2014, treated at Military Hospital 103 from June 2020 to June 2023. Severity was assessed based on ISS scales, and NLR was calculated at admission prior to any treatment intervention.

Vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia is associated with the coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines. It has been reported by vector-based vaccines. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report about vaccineinduced thrombotic thrombocytopenia in whole-virus vaccines. We are presenting the first case of vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia with this type of vaccine.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common gastrointestinalrelated causes of hospitalization in the USA, accounting for more than 200,000 admissions annually. Although mild and moderate cases usually improve within a week, severe AP conditions could lead to lifethreatening pancreatic necrosis, multiple-organ dysfunction, and be fatal in some cases.

The burden of diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing in resource-poor settings leading to a rise in diabetic complications. Foot complications result in almost half of all hospital admissions among diabetic patients and may result in amputations or death. To investigate the sociodemographic, clinic-laboratory characteristics and clinical outcomes of patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) in a clinical setting.

Emergency department (ED) care of older patients is often complex. Geriatric ED guidelines can help to meet this challenge. However, training requirements, the use of time-consuming tools for comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), a lack of golden standard to identify the frail patients, and the weak evidence of positive outcomes of using CGA in EDs pose barriers to introduce the guidelines.

The functional comorbidity index had high inter-rater reliability in patients with acute lung injury
The Functional Comorbidity Index (FCI) was recently developed to predict physical function in acute lung injury patients using comorbidity data. Our objectives were to determine: (1) the inter-rater reliability of the FCI collected using in-patient discharge summaries (primary objective); and (2) the accuracy and predictive validity of the FCI collected using hospital discharge summaries and admission records versus complete chart review (secondary objectives).

Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) are highly prevalent in older patients but little is known about prevalence of DDIs over time. Our main objective was to assess changes in the prevalence and characteristics of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) during a one-year period after hospital admission in older people, and associated risk factors.

Fractured neck of femur is a common cause of hospital admission in the elderly and usually requires operative fixation. In a variety of clinical settings, preoperative glucocorticoid administration has improved analgesia and decreased opioid consumption. Our objective was to define the postoperative analgesic efficacy of single dose of dexamethasone administered preoperatively in patients undergoing operative fixation of fractured neck of femur.
