  • Ebook "Neotropical insect galls" brings to light the most recent findings on the biogeography, biodiversity, host plant induction and natural history of gall inducing insects in the Neotropical region. We attempt to summarize the work done so far in the region, promote several syntheses on many aspects such as host induction, host specialization, distribution among the several vegetation types and zones, the origin of super hosts and the mechanisms leading to geographical patterns in their distribution.

  • The findings suggest that perceived or real economic benefits generated support for wind farms, especially when those benefits strengthened livelihoods and land-tenure security of host communities where livelihoods depended on fishing and farming and few employment opportunities exist. The varying consultation processes indicate that need for wind investors and state officials to improve community consultations.

  • Although the pathogenic effect of members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in susceptible hosts is well known, differences in clinical signs and pathological findings observed in infected animals have been reported, likely due to a combination of host and pathogen-related factors.

  • Understanding the interactions between tumor and the host immune system is critical to finding prognostic biomarkers, reducing drug resistance, and developing new therapies. Novel computational methods are needed to estimate tumor-infiltrating immune cells and understand tumor–immune interactions in cancers.

  • In a shallow dark cave along the coast of Capo Palinuro (Campania, Italy), the finding of an unusual aggregation of individuals belonging to Marionia blainvillea (Gastropoda, Nudibranchia) has allowed to identify a population of Cervera atlantica (Cnidaria, Anthozoa, Alcyonacea) and to add this latter to the list of the hosts preyed by this tritoniid nudibranch. This association was confirmed by a second observation in a dark shallow cave in the Island of San Pietro (Sardinia, Italy). Moreover, a subsequent internet data mining shed light on the diet of M.

  • Steinernema carpocapsae is an entomopathogenic nematode that employs nictation and jumping behaviours to find potential insect hosts. Here we aimed to investigate the transcriptional basis of variant hostfinding behaviours in the infective juvenile (IJ) stage of three S. carpocapsae strains (ALL, Breton and UK1), with a focus on neuronal genes known to influence behaviour in other nematode species.

  • In this study, the mycoflora present in the rhizosphere of four crops viz. rice, Sorghum, pigeonpea and urdbean were identified under controlled environmental conditions with the aim to know the host-specificity of mycoflora and to enrich the specific groups of bioagents. These potential microbes will be helpful in finding out good alternative to sustain the crop yield without having chemical residues in food.

  • Viruses are intracellular pathogens that bind to specific receptor molecules on the surface of the target cells for their entry to initiate infection. They exist as lifeless independent particles prior to their invasion of host cells which were subsequently infected due to virus. These parasitic particles find significant importance in the field of genetics, molecular and cell biology as they paved way for major advancement in human health aspects. In numerous researches and discussions were underway on these entities as of whether they belong to the realm of living organisms or not.

  • Proteus species are among the commonly implicated pathogens in hospital as well as community acquired infections. They cause nosocomial sinusitis, intra-abdominal abscesses, biliary tract infection, surgical site infection, soft tissue infection and osteomyelitis. They cause significant clinical infections, which are difficult to eradicate especially from hosts with wounds, catheterization, underlying diseases and in immunocompromised states.

  • Black gram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper] is one of the most important grain legumes and attacked by several foliar diseases that cause premature drying of leaves, resulting in reduced black gram yields. An experiment was conducted to find out the stable source of resistance against Anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum). Total of six cultivars (PU-30, PU-31, PU-38, PU-40, PUI-94-1 and TAU-1)of Black gram were evaluated under in micro plots in Agronomy farm at Rajasthan college of agriculture, Udaipur during 2013 and 2014 kharif season.

  • Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical roles in pathogen–host interactions. Aberrant miRNA expression profiles might have specific characteristics for virus strains, and could serve as noninvasive biomarkers for screening and diagnosing infectious diseases. In this study, we aimed to find new potential miRNA biomarkers of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

  • Seasonality is one of the most important factors in the tourism industry in Nepal. Economically, it can have many negative influences as a destination, but at the same time it may give a time for improvement of services provided by host community as well as it may recover to the service providers from the stress of the peak season. This paper highlights the pattern of seasonal variation of tourist arrival in Nepal at different time on the monthly and quarterly basis. It is found that the seasonal variation is the maximum in autumn (128.801) and minimum in summer (81.857).

  • The technique of in vitro propagation of Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi has been developed over the past few decades and opens up areas of studying plant-fungi interactions. It is a scientific break through, especially for the study of the Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, since these obligate symbionts depend on host plant. The objective of this paper is to find out the in vitro culture of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi using Root Organ Culture technique. Ascertain of root colonization of these fungi could be affected in vitro without undertaking complex and complicated culture conditions.

  • International student flows have been well-recognized in the higher education literature. Though traditional movement of student mobility is from developing to Western countries, new pattern of intra-regional movement is also noted. This study, therefore, aim to re-examine pushpull factors in affecting international student’s decision-making within Asian countries. Based on interviews with 17 Vietnamese postgraduates studying in Taiwan, this study has found the following main findings.

  • The study aims to explore the learning experiences of Vietnamese master students in the field of engineering at a Taiwan university to offer a well-known perception of learning experiences for Vietnamese prospective engineering students who look for foreign degrees in non-English-speaking Asian countries like Taiwan. Interviews with 14 master students were undertaken. The findings reveal that the Vietnamese students experience with 3 types of language-related problems in Taiwan: English language proficiency, lack of English medium of instruction from the host, and Chinese language issues.

  • Botnets are large networks of bots (compromised machines) that are under the control of a small number of bot masters. They pose a significant threat to Internet’s communications and applications. A botnet relies on command and control (C2) communications channels traffic between its members for its attack execution. C2 traffic occurs prior to any attack; hence, the detection of botnet’s C2 traffic enables the detection of members of the botnet before any real harm happens. We analyze C2 traffic and find that it exhibits a periodic behavior.

  • Schistosomiasis is a debilitating parasitic disease caused by platyhelminthes of the genus Schistosoma, notably Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma haematobium, and Schistosoma japonicum. Pioneer researchers used radiation-attenuated (RA) schistosome larvae to immunize laboratory rodent and non-human primate hosts. Significant and reproducible reduction in challenge worm burden varying from 30% to 90% was achieved, providing a sound proof that vaccination against this infection is feasible.

Adhesion to host epithelial cells and the presence of wall-associated plasminogen binding proteins are prerequisites to Streptococcus infection. This is the first study of the occurrence of nephritis-associated plasminogen-binding receptor (NAPlr) and a-enolase genes in piscine S. dysgalactiae subspecies dysgalactiae (SDSD) isolates.

  • The effect of the coordination of a Ni(II) ion on the electronic and magnetic properties of the ligand salophen were experimentally and theoretically evaluated. The complex [Ni(salophen)] was synthesized and characterized through FTIR and an elemental analysis. Spectral data obtained using DMSO as a solvent showed that the ligand absorption profile was significantly disturbed after the coordination of the metal atom.
