High order plasmonic types by integrating a novel heterogeneous plasmonic and flexible model based on the co-existence of Ag nanospheres (NSs) and Ag nanocubes (NCs) are introduced. The point-to-facet type in these hybrid shapes produces surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) signals many-fold larger than in single-plasmonic constructs.

Rare intronic variants of TCF7L2 arising by selective sweeps in an indigenous population from Mexico
Genetic variations of the TCF7L2 gene are associated with the development of Type 2 diabetes (T2D). The associated mutations have demonstrated an adaptive role in some human populations, but no studies have determined the impact of evolutionary forces on genetic diversity in indigenous populations from Mexico.

Aristolochia versicolor S.M. Hwang (Aristolochia subg. Siphisia), a medicinal plant, which was previously known from southern China and north-eastern Thailand, is reported herein as a new record for the flora of Vietnam. Detailed descriptions, colour illustrations, type specimen, habitat and phenology, distribution, conservation status, and morphological comparison with A. westlandii are also provided.

Saxifraga artvinensis V.A.Matthews, which is endemic to Turkey, was discovered on Tiryal Mountain (A8 Artvin, northeastern Turkey). Approximately 175 km from its type locality, a new population of the species was discovered, in the Picea orientalis forest in the Altındere Valley National Park, in A7 Trabzon (northeastern Turkey). A comparison with the known population of S. artvinensis confirmed that this new population represented a new taxon and is described as S. artvinensis subsp. meryemii Terzioğlu & Coşkunç.

Replication stress (RS) gives rise to DNA damage that threatens genome stability. RS can originate from different sources that stall replication by diverse mechanisms. However, the mechanism underlying how different types of RS contribute to genome instability is unclear, in part due to the poor understanding of the distribution and characteristics of damage sites induced by different RS mechanisms.

Transcriptional hotspots are defined as genomic regions bound by multiple factors. They have been identified recently as cell type specific enhancers regulating developmentally essential genes in many species such as worm, fly and humans.

Hot-spot biodiversity is a concentrated site of high species diversity, high species endemicity, and habitat uniqueness. Biodiversity disperses unevenly across the global, regional and regional scope. Hot-spot biodiversity developed into an approach to assessing the concentration of biodiversity at certain limits. The biodiversity hot-spot approach is conducted using indicator species such as bird species that are used as ecotourism development for sustainable forest exploitation.

A severe challenge to the idea that mitochondrial DNA mutations play a major role in the aging process in mammals is that clear loss-of-function mutations accumulate only to very low levels (under 1% of total) in almost any tissue, even by very old age. Their accumulation is punctate: some cells become nearly devoid of wild-type mitochondrial DNA and exhibit no activity for the partly mitochondrially encoded enzyme cytochrome c oxidase. Such cells accumulate in number with aging, suggesting that they survive indefinitely, which is itself paradoxical....

Additional projects studied the transfer of contaminants from females to pups, the impact of contaminants on immune system function, seasonal movements, diving activity and the measurement of heart rate as an indication of energy expenditure. Scientists have also observed the seal hunt in order to collect data on the age composition of the harvest as well as on “struck and loss”. In any harvest, animals may be killed but not recovered and therefore not included in the reported landings, a factor referred to as “struck and loss”.

Chlorine and other chemicals used to disinfect source water can form carcinogenic compounds when they react with organic matter. These compounds become a serious problem when nutrient overloads trigger recur- rent and persistent blooms of algae that contaminate source water. The reaction between chlorine and algal organic matter generates trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids, two types of disinfection byproducts that are federally regulated, as well as many other types of toxic byproducts. A study sponsored by the U.S.

You may be asked to choose between a “tax-qualified” long-term care insurance policy and one that is “non-tax-qualified.” There are important differences between the two types of policies. These differences were created by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). A federally tax-qualified long-term care insurance policy, or a qualified policy, offers certain federal income tax advantages. If you have a qualified long-term care policy and you itemize your deductions, you may be able to deduct part or all of the premium you pay for the policy.
