CD13 (APN) is an Alanyl-Aminopeptidase with diverse functions. The role of CD13 for gliomas is still unknown. In this study, data of glioma patients obtained by TCGA and CGGA databases were used to evaluate the survival rate and prognostic value of CD13 expression level. Protein expression of CD13 was confirmed by immunofluorescence staining of fresh patient tissues.

Ebook "The retinoblastoma protein" covers the mechanisms of pRb inactivation detailing repressive mechanisms commonly associated to cancer, and representative of the experimentally relevant tests used in the establishment of cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Chapters contain protocols and in-depth discussions for commonly used experimental approaches to assess the status and function of components of the pRb pathway, including pRb itself, in cell lines and biological samples.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancer and the third leading cause of death worldwide. Increased generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is observed in many types of cancer cells. Several studies have reported that an increase in ROS production could affect the expression of proteins involved in ROS-scavenging, detoxification and drug resistance.

The protein kinases CK2 and PIM-1 are involved in cell proliferation and survival, the cell cycle, and drug resistance, and they are found overexpressed in virtually all types of human cancer, including breast cancer.

Germ cell tumors are relatively common in young men. They derive from a non-invasive precursor, called germ cell neoplasia in situ, but the exact pathogenesis is still unknown. Thus, further understanding provides the basis for diagnostics, prognostics and therapy and is therefore paramount.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most lethal cancers in women because it is often diagnosed at an advanced stage. The molecular markers investigated thus far have been unsatisfactory. We performed whole-exome sequencing on the human ovarian cancer cell lines 3AO and ES2 and the normal ovarian epithelial cell line IOSE-80.

Cancer cells express immunosuppressive molecules, such as programmed death ligands (PD-L)1 and PD-L2, enabling evasion from the host’s immune system. Cancer cells synthesize and secrete acetylcholine (ACh), acting as an autocrine or paracrine hormone to promote their proliferation, differentiation, and migration.

Cancer is one of the main causes of human death. Here, we focus on the B-cell lymphoma 7 protein family member B (BCL7B) gene, an accessory subunit of the SWI/SNF chromatin-remodelling complex. To characterize the function of BCL7B, heterozygous BCL7B-deficient stomach cancer cell lines were generated with the CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing system.

In this study, nine ferulic and caffeic acid-based 1,2,4 and 1,3,4 oxadiazole molecular hybrids were synthesized and their cytotoxic activity was evaluated mainly against Glioblastoma (GBM) cell lines. Compounds 1 and 5 exhibited the highest inhibitory activity against three different GBM cell lines (LN229, T98G, and U87), without toxicity to healthy human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC). In addition, their cytotoxicity was also evaluated against three additional cancer cell lines and more inhibitory results were found than GBM cell lines.

The 2-methylpyridine, 2-diethylaminoethyl, and isopentyl linked a series of symmetric and unsymmetric benzimidazolium salts 2a-e were prepared and used in the synthesis of silver-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes (3a-e). We examined the effect of the structural difference of complexes on anticancer activity via different arenes and metal centers. Antiproliferative activity of 5a-h and 3a was tested against human cervix adenocarcinoma (HeLa) and rat glioblastoma (C6) cell lines by ELISA assay.

Marine fungi are evaluated as a potential source for new natural compounds with bioactivities of pharmaceutical values. In this study, 66 fungal strains, isolated from 37 sponge samples in Nha Trang bay, were determined for cytotoxic activity against two human cancer cell lines, including cervical cancer (Hela) and breast cancer (MCF-7) cells using MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay.

More than twenty years after its discovery, the role of the importin beta superfamily member Ran GTPbinding protein (RanBP) 17 is still ill-defined. Previously, we observed notable RanBP17 RNA expression levels in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cell lines with disruptive TP53 mutations.

S100A1 expression is deregulated in a variety of human malignancies, but its role in normal and malignant endometrial cells is unclear. Methods: We used endometrial carcinoma (Em Ca) cell lines to evaluate the physical and functional interaction of S100A1 with p53 and its negative regulator, mouse double minute 2 (MDM2).

Abnormal accumulation of acyl-CoA cholesterol acyltransferase-1 (ACAT1) and ACAT1-mediated cholesterol esterified with fatty acids (CE) contribute to cancer progression in various cancers. Our findings of increased CE and ACAT1 levels in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cell lines prompted us to investigate whether such an increase occurs in primary clinical samples obtained from human subjects diagnosed with EOC.

It has proven exceedingly difficult to ascertain rare copy number alterations (CNAs) that may have strong effects in individual tumors. We show that a regulatory network inferred from gene expression and gene copy number data of 768 human cancer cell lines can be used to quantify the impact of patient-specific CNAs on survival signature genes.
