E. coli are normal inhabitants of the gastrointestinal tract of animals, birds and humans of which only some strains have become highly adapted to cause diarrhoea and a range of extra-intestinal diseases. In the present study, a total of 320 raw poultry meat samples were collected from retail poultry meat market of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. A total of 224 E. coli isolates were obtained. The triturated samples were first inoculated on MLA and then on EMB agar, the colonies with greenish metallic sheen were considered as E. coli which was further confirmed by biochemical tests.
